Party Time?
Unfortunately after 36 years of fighting the war on drugs, the US government cannot simply reverse it's policy on drugs. And therefore we can and will never legalize drugs However maybe we can learn from Mexico and their positive changes in laws. Fighting the war on drugs is the same as throwing money down the drain. Instead of prohibition the government and society can gain so much by regulating the sale of drugs. First it benifits society in several ways. It would greatly decrease if not eliminate gangs as they fight over territories to sell drugs. And a drug dealer doesn't care if he sells to a 13 year old girl but a doctor would never (if they follow their hypocratic oath) prescribe herion to someone like that. The budget to fight schedule I narcotics is 17+ billion tax dollars every year. Many more billions of dollars are spent to encarcerate non- violent drug offenders. Plus who can count how much money is paid to drug dealers when the government could just regulate the whole business. Regulation is always better than prohibition and could greatly benifit our country.— August 23, 2009 2:24 a.m.
