Latest plans for ill-fated L Street land deal
Before anybody starts yellin: "Hang em High" in the Re-Elect Bonnie Dumanis D.A. courthouse, there are some salient FACTS about this issue that demand reverberation and clarification; they are: #1) Many if not most of the South Bay celebrated the resurrection of Ed Brand's dominace at Sweetwater; #2) This travesty is Brand's and his "go right over the cliff with ya" lieutenants; #3) finally, it is odd, but not really if you know this D.A. -- Ed Brand was neither investigated nor indicted. As for subjective speculation to all yee beleaguered property owners struggling to pay your/his property taxes, be prepared for an Ed Brand increase to Miller Roos, he claims proudly the law allows him to do it without going to the dwindling few that pay the freight. And if he does take the "high road" with another bond campaign, please, in the name of all that is holy vote NO!— April 9, 2013 12:35 p.m.
In debt to self for failed mayoral bid, San Diego District Attorney already raising 2014 re-election cash
AnnieJ, I have suspected for quite some time that your obsession (bordering on hysteria) given Sweetwater’s dilemmas would eventually blossom into utter delusion. That altered state of yours was never more on display given your uncorroborated favorable comments about an incompetent D.A. and her obsession with blurring the lines between her political ambitions and her judicial authority. However, there is one thing that you have delineated given your post that I do agree with (in part); there will be a debt to pay! Yes, quite a large one paid by local taxpayers given criminal precedings that in some, if not most, translate into misdemeanors – maybe – and would have been better handled by the Fair Political Practices Commission, not the D.A.’s Office with all the TV cameras and political fanfare.— February 5, 2013 3:14 p.m.
Deep inside the Filner transition
Bob is a SMART guy; this transition to Mayor Elect Filner's Administration will be facilitated in a manner befitting an elected official that ran on his record and positions that were well articulated in the campaign -- and the majority of San Diegans agreed. Good luck Mayor Filner!— November 30, 2012 8:10 a.m.
Sweetwater Schools Forum Makes Policy Clear as Mud
I attended this meeting with my significant other; she pays a herrendous amount of both property, Prop "O" and Miller Roos -- thus her and my attendance. This story is accurate and necessary for those that "pay the freight" to better understand how their hard earned dollars are being spent. I can say that we were impressed and grateful to Berta Lopez for her courage and leadership at that meeting in pointing out who was responsible and where both the problem and solution lies. McCann, Cartmill and Ricasa enabled the genesis of the problem [Superintendant Ed Brand] with an aye vote to extend his exhorbitant contract with the District while both Lopez and Quinones voted NAY!— November 14, 2012 4:07 p.m.
Chula Vista chamber of commerce PAC gets money from supervisor Cox
"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." ~Benjamin Franklin The 16% of the electorate that elected Cheryl Cox Mayor did just that! Vote "YES" on Prop B. ~Bob Castaneda— October 31, 2012 4:30 p.m.
Chula Vista Ethics Meeting Draws Mayor and Three Police
Standing up for what you believe has never been easy in Chula Vista. I personally have been in awe of the Watry's and certain members of Crossroads II for years; don't always agree with them, but they have my respect. These folks are not paid bureaucrats nor professional politicians, rather they are old time Chula Vistans that have a right to have their voices heard without being intimidated by a Mayor who feels she needs armed officers present to influence her neighbors. Recently, Mayor Cox berated Chula Vistans that disagreed with a City Hall decision to change an existing land use plan; called them names; now this. I have one question for you that are reading this post, how many of you voted for Cheryl Cox? Remember, people deserve what they vote for!— October 29, 2012 9:18 a.m.
Chula Vista's Tourism Marketing District Director responds
This was a bold and lengthy fight to rightsize Chula Vista government and elimiate an unfair tax that represents the worst in government. Apparently, given the quotes in this article from a disenfranchised recipient of a much smaller public dole, the ony thing that remains is arrogance!— October 26, 2012 2:14 p.m.
