Ace Drive-In Movie Theater Remembered
The Lemon Grove Historical Society revisits the glory days (1955-86) of its lone drive-in movie theater on Broadway and Grove Streets when 25 cent popcorn and poodle skirts ruled and $2 carloads of screaming teens thrilled to little green men from Mars, G-men, and Grade Z thrillers on a four-acre lot dotted with speakers, the scent of grilled onions and hamburgers drifting on the evening air, and all eyes turned to a giant screen glowing with immense images of cultural change. That was a time. Artifacts, photographs, original movie posters, a restored pink Cadillac door with speaker and snack tray, showings of Drag Strip Riot (starring a hometown boy), and more bring the old Ace back to life.
