Rockin' the Political Boat
2730 Historic Decatur Road, Barracks 16, #103, San Diego, 92106
Political inequality had important personal ramifications for issues of sexuality, birth control and abortion, and for roles in marriage, housework, and childcare. Convinced that gender discrimination could not be defeated without political organization, Second-Wave feminists of the 60s and 70s challenged society to accept their participation on a public, political level. In the summer of 1966, the National Organization for Women was launched. Members lobbied Congress for pro-equality laws and battled workplace discrimination in the courts. Follow the wave in the third installation of the Rocking the Boat series. Runs September 2 to October 30.
