Prayers
2891 University Avenue, San Diego, 92104
Rafa Reyes and Dave Parley are the Mexican-born, San Diego–raised artists who brought the “cholo-goth” movement into pop culture. Despite being usurped by fashionistas and megafestivals, cholo-goth is street-tough in its electronic-rock abrasion and menacing look, while Reyes’s lyrics relate the gangland story with firsthand knowledge and conviction. Wasn’t long ago the international hit Reyes was serving veggie burritos on E Street downtown at his family-owned eatery Pokéz. Prayers take the pulpit at Observatory North Park on Friday.
