Archipelago: Opening Reception
1827 Fifth Avenue, San Diego, 92101
Cost: Free
Archipelago consists of four artist working in varied methods and styles including sculpture, painting, photography, video, and performance.
Michael Ashkin’s current work is a series of spraypaint paintings or “constructed photographs” on cardboard that deal with the urban landscape and spatial politics and are reminiscent of early photography. Accompanying these works are small sculptures that point to a primitive future and a primitive past. Assembling various objects and utilizing mirrored surfaces with seductive textures, Roxanne Yamins’s sculpture introspectively addresses the idea of sexuality in commodity culture. Timothy Earl Neill’s video work consists of a firework sign set on a romantic horizon.
