San Diego author Louise Mathews takes us inside the jails, behind the bars, and tells what it’s like to cook for thousands of inmates each day. Mathews will speak about her new book, Jail House Cuisine: From the Right Side of the Bars.

Her memoir is a compilation of her favorite recipes and recollections based on her unique and unusual daily experiences preparing 40,000 meals a week in  jails, juvenile facilities, and satellite school programs for 21 years. Mathews is now retired from her position as chief of food services for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
