As of the morning of April 10, Escondido Police are still searching for Ruben Anthony Cepeda, a 21-year-old suspected of shooting his pregnant girlfriend on Saturday night. According to a bulletin released by the Escondido Police Department, bail was set at $1 million when detectives obtained a warrant late Sunday.
North County Times reported that the victim's older sister, Yemely Rodriguez, was in the victim's apartment when she heard a noise in the next room. Not realizing it was a gunshot, she entered the room to find her sister in pain and covered in blood. At first, Yemely thought Viridiana might be having a miscarriage, but it soon became apparent that she was near death.
"She tried," Yemely told a reporter. "She was struggling for life."
