Wow. That's two nods for Best New Restaurant, a Best Chef (Ryan Johnston) and a Top Ten. Not bad.

This is at Prep Kitchen Little Italy (1660 India Street, 619-398-8383).

Have to agree about PK's “Best Happy Hour” mention. Last time I was up there on their second floor it was luscious.

Three things stick in my mind: the shrimp which come sizzling in a black iron mini-pan...

...the yellowtail Nicoise salad...

...and the olives.

You hate to eat them, they look so good.

But the chunk of beeyootiful crunchy bread helps you change your mind...

...Sopping up the juices from the dishes is actually the highlight. If I was giving out bread prizes, this'd be it.

Bacon-wrapped dates...

...patatas bravas...

...and even toasted cheese sandwiches.

And across the road, Davanti Enotica was named one of the 50 best new restaurants in the USA for 2012 by Bon Appétit magazine. I swear. This street is turning into such a gastro hotspot it's like water in a sizzling frypan. Hopping!

Note to self for this weekend: convince lovely wife it's been too long since we've seen her sister, go visit sis-in-law's Little Italy condo, suggest a refreshing neighborhood stroll around dinnertime. Did this 5 times last year, resulted in 3 Prepkitchen visits. Not gonna say I've figured out how to game the system, but...
