Many casual photographers put away their cameras when the sun goes down, not realizing that the night presents many unique opportunities for getting creative and having fun with photography.
San Diego is a great place to be at night. The setting sun reflects off downtown buildings and colors streak across the sky, giving way to a twilight where lights sparkle in the harbor like a chest full of jewels.
When the Harvest Moon comes up just around sunset (you missed it for this year) it appears big and red. From Shelter Island there is a great view of it as it rises behind the buildings of downtown and that is where I took this picture from.
Now that the days are shorter, I will be running a night photography workshop for photographers wishing to capture some of the sites and atmosphere of San Diego downtown at night.
