So many San Diegans carry guns
TM - Wait, wait, wait. The Bill of Rights do not contain an exhaustive list of what is allowed for Americans to do. The Bill of Rights does not say that you have the right to chew gum and yet it's not illegal. In the same way, no matter how you interpret the "well regulated militia" portion of the Second Amendment, it does not mean that anyone left out from protection contained therein is therefore by default prohibited from owning keeping and bearing arms. The Bill of Rights (if you would read the text) state what Congress shall not make a law against, it is an indelible safeguard against what the Framers considered to be the fundamental basis of human rights. If you want to ban guns universally, as you mistakenly claim is the current state of affairs, you must either pass on a law on the federal level (if the Supreme Court hadn't just affirmed that the right to bear arms is individual) or you must do it at the state level across the land; Good luck with that!— July 28, 2009 11:42 a.m.
