Memories of Analog TV: The 70s
Another favorite memory I have of Johnny Downs in San Diego is when he would dance on the top of this giant milk bottle and sing, "I want to go where you go, do what you do, love when you love, then I'll be happy ..... " The sponsor of this kids' show was Golden Guernsey milk. There was also a cartoon commerical with a mother and and a father, and the father's finger would wave, and the lyrics would go "Never, never go without Golden Guernsey milk...." I haven't seen that brand in the stores in ages -- I wonder if they even produce it, anymore. Maybe it was a local brand? Seems in years following it faded out of existence. These were really cute shows and we kids ate them up! Johnny is gone, now, as is Bob Dale. Don't know what happened to Tom Hatten, if he is still around, or not. I have so many nice memories of my southern California days, before things got crazy and I began to feel alienated....— April 24, 2010 4:49 p.m.

I also remember Johnny Downs when Popeye cartoons were being aired for the kids. I recall the boat ramp Johnny used to walk down, then enter a set that looked like the inside of a boat. He'd always start out with "Howdy, howdy, howdy! Good to see ya!" There was another station that aired Popeye cartoons out of Los Angeles, I believe, and the host of that one was a guy named Tom Hatten. He always wore a sailors cap and had three easels with blank paper on them. He would begin a drawing with what he called a "squiggle", and there were three kids, one at each easel. The contest was for them to make the squiggle into a complete drawing, and the best of the three drawings won. Those were great old shows! Not the garbage they air, today! -- tully— April 17, 2010 10:31 a.m.
Memories of Analog TV: The 70s
I remember Bob Dale from Zoorama. As a kid, I eaglerly looked forward to that show. Really enjoyed Bob's presentation, and learning about the animals at the San Diego Zoo. I heard some talk about the time KMFB fired Bob that he had begun to experience some heart problems? Mainly from the stress of being let go ... Anyone recall hearing about that? I also enjoyed him doing the weather. I used to live in San Diego County for many years, and while I now live out of state, I have some wonderful memories of some of those old shows. I've always liked Bob Dale. He seemed so down to earth ... --tully— April 11, 2010 11:42 a.m.
