Foie Gras... or Faux Pas?
Joe, I respect your concern about this, but I expect that there is a lot more cruelty involved in producing meat than you are giving any thought to. The typical farmed pig, the typical farmed beef cow, the typical egg-laying chicken, lead lives that can only be compared to lives spent in concentration camps. Read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" to just barely start learning about this, and it gets much worse from there. Foie gras ducks live on luxurious resorts compared to farmed pigs, which are at least as intelligent and sensitive as pet dogs. I'm not giving you a hard time -- I'm just stating facts.— December 7, 2012 3:42 p.m.
La Terrazza — Life at the Top
Ed, since you ask, being pretentious, and developing a sense of discrimination are completely different things. In fact, they are the opposite of each other. There's nothing wrong with having a mac-n-cheese and Miller Lite palate.... unless you're writing restaurant reviews. C'mon -- it looks like you've been doing this long enough that you should have developed a the tiniest bit of sophistication by now. Ask a litle more of yourself. There's a really interesting world out there.— April 28, 2012 12:57 a.m.
La Terrazza — Life at the Top
You ordered a glass of house Chablis to have with pizza? Because the waiter told you it would be sweet enough but not too sweet? And you're offering a published restaurant review? I'm sorry, but your palate has absolutely zero credibility.— April 20, 2012 1:35 p.m.
New Blue: Blue Point Coastal Cuisine
I wish I shared your generous attitude. I have made the mistake of taking out-of-town guests to the Prado on three different occasions. I love the location of the Prado, and I'm somewhat willing to overlook the snotty, indifferent attitudes of the hostesses, but the food is consistently mediocre, and that is impossible to forgive. If the Prado were located in Twenty-Nine Palms, it would be the second-best restaurant in town. If it were located in Lancaster, it just might be the best restaurant in town. So, I know this is off the topic of Blue Point, but I find that I do not have it in my heart to forgive the Cohn Group for its pretentious, stacked-high pablum. They have treated an iconic San Diego location with disrespect, and I am profoundly reluctant to give them my money.— February 11, 2011 6:34 p.m.
