Voter Survey: Smokers' Tax Losing Support, Brown Tax Proposal Remains Strong
Another California newspaper said this, and this sums up why I'll vote YES on Prop 29: "If you took all the money from this tax, raked it into a big pile and set fire to it, Proposition 29 would still be a great deal. Raising tobacco taxes reduces smoking, and that will save California taxpayers billions of dollars in medical costs, not to mention sparing millions of people the misery of addiction or of watching loved ones destroy their health." Of course the tobacco companies are spending tens of millions of dollars to try to confuse us into voting no. Tobacco companies want our kids to smoke their Newports, Camels and Marlboros. They want our kids as customers, addicted for life. But I'm joining the Cancer, Heart, Lung Associations, Lance Armstrong and the California PTA and voting YES on Prop 29.— May 24, 2012 8:21 a.m.
Big Tobacco Spends Big On Ads Against Tobacco Tax
I have three relatives dead from tobacco-related disease, I certainly don't believe this "Dr La Donna Porter MD" who is being paid by the drug pushers from Marlboro and Camel to lie to Californians. "Dr La Donna Porter MD" can collect her tv royalty checks until she's blue in the face, but I'm not buying her lies. With the tobacco companies trying to buy our votes (remember Meg Whitman?) this is an easy choice. I'm voting YES on Prop 29. Instead of more tobacco industry lies, I'll vote YES to save lives! Raising the price of cigarettes by $1 a pack is the best way we know to have fewer of our kids starting to smoke.— April 25, 2012 7:12 a.m.
Big Snuff Makes Big TV Buys Here; Burnham Backs the Other Side
When we raise the price of cigarettes, we see a significant reduction in youth and adult smoking. (see Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids) The makers of Marlboro know this. That's why they will spend millions to try to keep cigarette prices low. Don't we want more people to quit smoking? Don't we want California to find an answer to cancer? I'll be voting YES on Prop 29, the California Cancer Research Act on June 5.— April 7, 2012 7:54 a.m.
