City Auditor says City and Zoo can keep better track of property tax revenues
The city has a history of not really following where the money goes. Not just for the zoo. Do we have a city zookeeper (that is, someone who watches the zoo)? And who is it, I wonder. Unlike the wastewater people, who have to go look into the sewers, the zookeeper could go audit the elephants. Glad to hear this is all going to be improved.— May 7, 2013 6:41 p.m.
City agrees to $120,000 settlement in lawsuit over downtown PBID overcharges
I would like to know more about the tort case. Has an article been written on it?— May 4, 2013 10:26 a.m.
Got a permit for that, Manchester?
The scenarios that govern Code Compliance Action are convoluted. A violation for Doug Manchester provides a perfectly legal way for Mr. Manchester to give money to the city. It is hard to take anything at face value, with the cast of characters we have here. The best way for the TMD to publicize San Diego would be to make a mini-series about what goes on here. Set at the Grand Del Mar Resort, of course.— May 3, 2013 10:46 a.m.
Lawsuit aims to prevent massive wall signs from being allowed in City
Don't forget the generous lighting municipal code that goes with signage. You will have an LED-lit video the size of a building for all to see. Or back-lit plastic, the low-cost all-time favorite. The possibilities will be endless.— April 22, 2013 9:01 p.m.
City accused of not releasing public documents, sued for violating public records act
SCI Consulting should have asked for the ethics complaints against the Economic Development Department regarding the GH Maintenance Assessment District and the Resolutions. Those are a lot more entertaining reading.— April 19, 2013 3:59 p.m.
Sidewalk café serves up noise
City sidewalks and set backs are owned by the People of San Diego. They are being given, rent-free, to restaurants and bars. That's politics.— April 19, 2013 12:02 p.m.
City accused of not releasing public documents, sued for violating public records act
SCI Consulting acted on information the city gave them when they prepared the Engineer's Report. When the Golden Hill MAD was overturned in the Appeal Court, the city structured the refunds so that almost no money had to be refunded. They made the form difficult - requiring trust papers for property held in trust - that only 10% of the property owners filed for the refund. Of course, the city did not tell ANYONE that refunds were available. Thanks to the Reader, at least some of the people got the word. The city learned a valuable lesson - how to lose and still not pay the refunds, a lesson which I am sure they will use with their new Tourist Maintenance District.— April 17, 2013 12:34 p.m.
Mayor Filner proposes cutting City Attorney budget. City Attorney responds with $2,500 gift to Republican Party
People just can't believe Bob Filner got elected. He's a Democrat, after all. San Diego likes Democrats that look and talk like Todd Gloria. Bob Filner goes out and meets with the people all the time. Isn't that a quaint idea? You know, the voters? San Diego just may get used to democracy. I would like to think so.— April 16, 2013 2:57 p.m.
City Attorney weighs in on formation of downtown arts and entertainment district
Don't get confused. These districts are all about the money. The other part - art, Maintenance, business, - all incidental.— April 10, 2013 6:51 p.m.
San Diego city attorney dances to lobbyists' tune in banquet video
He's the guy who never moved his feet while dancing, right? Any chance of identifying the supporting cast?— April 2, 2013 7:23 a.m.
