Soup of the Evening
"And, hey, need your help! Anybody know a great local source for New England clam chowder (with fresh milk and/or cream, rather than canned condensed milk, and not too much flour thickening or excessive potato)? I haven’t found a single flawless one in nearly ten years." Iris Food and Spirits in Carmel Valley has the best New England style clam chowder I've had on the west coast. It's creamy and doesn't have any additives like corn starch or gluten to thicken it up. And the chef also features Carlsbad Aqua Farm clams. I seem to remember you doing a review of Iris recently. It's a shame if you didn't try the chowder!— January 9, 2010 3:22 p.m.
