Home Maid Contributions
UDW home care providers help keep more than 25,000 low-income elderly and disabled San Diegans safe and secure in their own homes rather than in nursing homes or other institutions. Some of them are family members who have given up higer paying jobs and even careers to care for loved ones for little more than minimum wage. Not only does this help these vulnerable individuals, it saves California taxpayers millions of dollars a year over what it would cost to care for them in nursing homes. If you think people who insert catheters, change adult diapers, feed and bathe people, and transport them to medical appointments are just "maids," you obviously know little about caring for people.— May 11, 2012 10:51 a.m.
