Reply to San Diego Parrothead: That would be because Earth is passing through the remnants of the tail of the old comet from which the Perseids came over a period of time (in days). The frequency of meteors visible could be approximately equal two successive nights if Earth passed closest to the center of the comet's tail during the day between those two nights.— August 12, 2010 5:38 p.m.
