As the leaves change (as much as they can in San Diego), locals dig through their closets for their favorite sweaters, coats, and boots to survive the chilling sub-70-degree weather. Among them is Brigitte Tomma, a local prospective psychologist.

“I’m not a big fan of summer clothes, so my favorite part of transitioning into fall is being able to dust off my favorite jackets and coats,” says Tomma. These include her boyfriend’s Zara Men’s Fall 2012 jacket (Zara, $120) and her staple mustard colored trench coat (Elizabeth and James, $120). Tomma pairs the Zara men’s jacket with a slim beige turtleneck (Urban Outfitters, $29), balancing out the silhouette of her jacket and black wide leg pants (Elizabeth and James, $50). Snake patterned booties (Urban Outfitters, $80) and simple accessories complete the look.

Having more high-quality pieces like these means that they’ll last for years to come, making them more eco-friendly, Tomma says. “I’m really trying to transition into buying more eco-conscious clothing, such as from certified B corporations,”

Beyond environmental considerations, Tomma finds inspiration from a pair of ‘90s fashion icons.

“I’ve always drawn inspiration from the Olsen Twins, ever since growing up with them, it appears that their fashion sense has always remained influential in my life, and this also goes for their tastes in music, art, and film. Considering that I’ve been following the Olsen Twins for practically my entire lifetime, I’ve been a huge consumer of one of their brands, Elizabeth and James, which was recently sold to Kohl’s — which means more accessible price points.” That’s good news for Tomma, shown wearing a knit turtleneck ($50) and earrings ($30) that hail from the same brand as her beloved trench.
