On August 23 a Southwestern College campus police officer’s weapon went off accidentally. An anonymous source reported that two people were almost hit.

The Southwestern daily crime log for that day reported that at 10:02 a.m. a subject was transported from the college police department’s office to the hospital.

Lillian Leopold, public information officer, confirmed in an August 30 email that this incident took place and that no update will be available until the investigation is completed.

Leopold’s message to Southwestern employees on August 23 stated “This morning there was an accidental discharge of a duty firearm in the Campus Police locker room. Thankfully nobody was hurt. One employee was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.”

Nowadays a campus needs to protect itself. This author does not tell us the level of training the on campus police have, that would have been helpful.

I am very happy to read no one was hurt. I just hope Andy now realizes that he should not be allowing Barney to have real bullets for his gun.
