According to the Father Joe's Villages website, after 30 years of serving San Diego neighbors in need, "Father Joe Carroll has announced his retirement as CEO of Father Joe's Villages and its partner agencies, effective April 12, 2011."

The Catholic priest’s new title will be “president emeritus,” and Father Joe will concentrate on fund-raising only. The current management team will continue daily operations.

It’s been said lately that pastor Miles McPherson and the Rock Church in Point Loma will help out at Father Joe's Villages, donating volunteers, services, and outreach to the downtown charity. In a sermon by Pastor McPherson on Sunday, April 3, a "Do Something" “marriage of convenience” between Father Joe's and the Rock Church was mentioned as a possibility.

Oh God I hope this isn't true! By using the words 'marriage of convenience' to describe the merger of the two organizations reveals McPherson's true intentions and interests: money.

Non profits need to focus on income to survive, sure, and it should NEVER be the main motivator or focus in the organization's business dealings. The population served by the non profit should always remain the main focus and the only motivator for what, how, and to what purpose a non profit does business.

Father Joe Carroll has doen more for the poor and unfortunate than anyone in San Diego, and for that matter anyone in So Cal.

Father Joe Carroll = True Hero of this city, state country.

People need to calm themselves down about this. It is only being discussed-is what I heard from an insider. Father Joe-of course, is much beloved and appreciated but his diabetes is not getting any better and the Dear Father is not getting any younger.

The Rock Church can offer a fresh infusion of volunteers who are always looking to "Do Something." @blueevey should pack away her negativism and lack of faith and know that God will do a good thing here, if something can be agreed upon. And if @blueevey ever attended Rock services, she would know this: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6: 19-21.

lol... I most definitely do not lack faith or have any negativism. I simply believe that Miles McPherson would not be a suitable replacement for Father Joe.

I also don't like the Rock church or what it stands for. I have attended a couple of services at the new Pt Loma location. The first was with a guest speaker, the guy that wrote The case for Jesus (or whatever the book's called). I didn't know that was the set sermon for the day, so alright, he was cool, whatevs. The second and last time was right after Carrie Prejean spoke out against gay marriage. And this is where Miles Mcpherson lost me. Using an old testament text to relate to new testament believers (or at the least, the people inside the building) is not biblical. Using the old testament to teach believers--Christians--isn't biblical. As believers in Christ, we are to emmulate and be Christlike. We are not meant to live under the law, or any law.

And i say 'we' because i'm including myself as i've been saved for 9 yrs.
