“I knew he had to be really funny, and sick and twisted, just by virtue of being related to us on my mother’s side,” Dad said. “Still, I think it’s neat. With all this shit, all these synchronicities, I strongly believe we were supposed to meet each other and complement each other’s lives.”

“You know what I think is so cool about all this?” I said. “It’s that he was right here all this time. I could have been seated next to him at Bread and Cie and never realized we shared so much. It’s going to make me look at everyone differently, and not just to wonder whether or not we’re related. I bet every person I pass on the street shares at least one connection with me. You never know.”

Hello Barb, I awoke crazy early today (4am) and ended up on the machine. You and your writings came to mind - what is the first thing I see - a story about Fergal. Yes, I know Fergal, too. We met many years ago through my friend who also worked at MoPA in Balboa Park. As I recall they met through their dogs, as many folks do in University Heights. The last time I saw Fergal was at a wedding held in that wonderful, almost secret chappel in Balboa Park. And yes, he delighted all near at that event too. Thanks for the story. I tend to side with your Dad, we meet up with people for many reasons so it is important to pay attention to every soul we encounter. Thanks for all your wonderful stories. Makes me happy to read about you, David, your terrific Dad and San Diego as I now reside in New Mexico. Jerrianne Harland

Hi, Jerrianne! It certainly is a small world. I'm amazed at how many people both Fergal and I know, and just this week, I encountered many more overlaps between friends who know other friends of mine. I will be sure to tell Fergal you say hello! Thank you so much for keeping up with my stories all the way from New Mexico. :)
