At about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, an employee of the Albertsons supermarket on the 2700 block of Via de la Valle reported to police that a customer had pulled a knife on a cashier after the cashier refused to sell the customer alcohol.

Two San Diego police cruisers were dispatched to the scene as well as the SDPD helicopter, which was already airborne nearby.

About ten minutes later, the helicopter radioed that they had spotted someone matching the description given by the Albertsons employee: a 19- or 20-year-old male with short hair and thin mustache in jeans and a black jacket. The suspect was walking westbound on Via de la Valle, just west of the 5 freeway, pushing a bike along the street.

From there, the subject apparently entered the parking lot of the Denny's restaurant at Via de la Valle and Jimmy Durante Boulevard. As SDPD cruisers were making their way to that area, the police helicopter spotted the subject walking across the street and continuing west. He was last seen between the Fish Market and Winners Circle Resort.
