continued The same day the editorial appeared, Newsome sent Robert Kittle, the author of the piece, an e-mail saying, "You should be ashamed of yourself and your paper, and you owe Mr. Aguirre a swift and public apology." Among other things, Newsome pointed out that he had given the material to the Union-Tribune more than a year earlier and nothing had appeared. He noted that at the same time he had written Aguirre in December 2004, he had written five other agencies that could have acted.
I e-mailed Kittle, asking if he planned to run Newsome's letter. His response: "We don't publish personal e-mail addressed to me." Next, Kittle adjusted his computer to screen out all e-mails from Newsome.
