Six-year-old Before Today signed a three-record deal with Equal Vision in January, which released their Celebration of an Ending (recorded locally at Double Time) in September. Equal Vision (the New York label known for breaking Coheed, Cambria, and Saves the Day) has since lost Coheed and Cambria to Capitol Records.

"They were getting really big," said Vic Fuentes, singer/guitarist of Before Today, about Coheed and Cambria. "Indie labels can't really handle it. Equal Vision, if not the biggest, is the best indie label." Fuentes said Before Today's contract with Equal Vision includes covering their touring costs.

"We've had two national tours." Fuentes said all four members of Before Today, aged 19 to 22, were born in San Diego. "We never want to leave."

Fuentes said his band got signed without a manager, without press, and without even a publicity shot.

"Record a good, solid three- to four-song demo. That's exactly what we did."

Maybe it helps if your band also has the word "Day" in its name.

Before Today appears New Year's Eve at Soma with As I Lay Dying, Atreyu, Bleeding Through, Underminded, My American Heart, Throwdown, Terror, the Strangers Six, Yesterdays Rising.
