Newbreak
Sunset Cliffs, Ocean Beach
www.staythehellaway.com

Okay, the Web address is fake, but the sentiment is dead-on. In the olden days of surf localism, at many breaks it was enough, if you were a stranger, to shred. At Newbreak, you must shred and be respectful, which means you don't take a wave if there's the slightest chance in hell that some local might catch it. If you're a kook, you're gonna have a board shot at you. Newbreak's inaccessibility works in the locals' favor: you must go to the westernmost building on the Point Loma Nazarene College campus and take a dirt path down the cliffs to the rocky waterline. Just south of where you're standing is Newbreak
