Of Mice and Men

New Village Arts has had an up and, mostly, down season. Its staging of John Steinbeck's drama, however, ranks among its better efforts to date. Daren Scott's direction and Manny Fernandes's first-rate performance as Lennie — so innocent, so dangerous — propel the tale of bonded itinerants to its inevitable, tragic conclusion. Justin Lang (George), John DiCarlo (Slim), and Jack Missett (Candy) make valuable contributions. And Steinbeck still has a remarkable knack for making things we take for granted — warm clothes, regular meals, a place of one's own — sound like a dream [Note: due to popular demand, New Village Arts has extended the run of this production]>
