Earl Tooker: A Soldier's Story from WW I
3205 Olive Street, Lemon Grove, 91945
Age Limit: 18+
Cost: Free
The Lemon Grove Historical Society presents Helen Ofield on "History Alive" with the story of Earl Tooker, 18, who went to war and was gassed on the Western Front during World War I. His suffering, efforts to work and live a normal life in Lemon Grove while in and out of hospitals, poverty when an indifferent federal government neglected to send his disability pension ($53) until 1923, four years after his honorable discharge, and untimely death are dramatically illustrated with photographs. The lecture continues the observance of the 2017 centennial of America's entry into WW I. Info: 619-460-4353.
