Lynne Cox: Swimming in the Sink
In 1989, at the signing of the INF Missile Treaty, President Reagan and Soviet Leader Gorbachev raised their glasses, and Gorbachev said, “Last summer it took one brave American by the name of Lynne Cox just two hours to swim from one of our countries to the other...she proved by her courage how close to each other our peoples live.” Meet this spectacular woman who swam the Bering Strait and distances most would never dare. She has set world records for open-water swimming, was named a Los Angeles Times Woman of the Year, inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, and honored with a lifetime achievement award from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Discussion topics will include how an individual can affect the emotional state of a society, and the effect of physical training on the body and mind. A signed copy of her latest book Swimming in the Sink: An Episode of the Heart is included with registration. Info: 619-594-2863 or [email protected].
