Bread & Salt gallery will be the new, temporary home for the large format portraits of African-American and Hispanic San Diegans by artist John Mireles.  Entitled <em>Neighbors, </em>the prints from this project were originally exhibited in public within the Logan Heights community. Over the course of one year, from October 2015 to October 2016, the prints in this exhibition transitioned from vibrant and shiny to dull and even vandalized. In the process, the images have become not just snapshots of one moment in time, but the manifestation of the change over time, and a metaphor for the change wrought by gentrification in the Logan Heights and Barrio Logan neighborhoods.

The exhibition, <em>Neighbors: Manifestations of Change, </em>will run from November 1 to December 29, 2016.  The opening reception, which coincides with the Barrio Art Crawl, will be on Saturday, November 12 at 6 p.m.

J. Raymond Mireles has been photographing and documenting the American experience for 25 years now. Beginning as a commercial photographer in the 1990s his roster of advertising clients has included Fortune 500 companies like DuPont, Intuit and Pfizer. Mireles has pursued documentary projects about the oil boom in North Dakota, life in the contemporary art hub of Berlin, economic disparity in the California desert, and the people and places that make up the central New Mexico of his ancestors.
