California Cartography
Knowledge Commons San Diego is a new free school for free thinkers. Unique classes taught by San Diegans, for San Diegans. Join us for our Winter 2016 session.
We will embark on a fascinating journey through time and space, as Captain Cloward walks us through the collection, featuring maps right from the first millennium (we get to point and laugh at their zany ideas), some of the earliest maps of the Americas, and even a few maps that show what the early explorers thought about California (you'll be surprised). We'll also get to view and discuss some early maps of San Diego. We'll learn navigational techniques, map conservation, techniques and more. This will be a history lesson unlike any other.
Capt. Richard Cloward is the Director of the Map and Atlas Museum of La Jolla.
