San Diego Ballet: The Seven Beauties
The U.S. premiere of the famous Azerbaijani Ballet, performed by the the renowned San Diego Ballet and Grossmont Symphony Orchestra.
The ballet Seven Beauties was composed in 1952 by Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev based on motifs of Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi’s Seven Beauties, written in 1197.
The poem illustrates the story of the young prince Bahram, destined to become the ruler of the world, and his encounters with seven beautiful princesses of different ethnic backgrounds. Bahram needs the wisdom of these princesses in order to become a worthy king.
This is a story of just governance, tolerance, ethnic diversity, and multiculturalism.
