Budrus
Jewish Voice for Peace-San Diego and the San Diego chapter of Sabeel, along with the Rancho Bernardo branch of the San Diego Public Library, invite you to join us for a screening of Budrus, the award-winning documentary film from Just Vision. Refreshments will be provided and a discussion will follow the film.
Our guest speaker for the event, Nadia Keilani, an Iraqi-American lawyer and activist, will give a brief introduction prior to the film as well as lead the discussion afterward.
Budrus follows the efforts of Ayed Morrar, a resident of the Palestinian town of Budrus in the Occupied West Bank, to stop the construction of Israel’s Separation Wall through his town. Morrar organizes regular non-violent protests in an attempt to prevent the loss of much of Budrus’ land and the destruction of thousands of the olive trees that have sustained its residents for generations. Morrar convinces both Fatah and Hamas members to take part in his non-violent efforts, yet a surprising turn of events takes place when Morrar’s shy, 15-year-old daughter Iltezam decides to take a leading role in the protests.
