Republican Bonnie Dumanis, currently trying to climb the local political ladder from her post as county District Attorney to San Diego's mayor, has been noted for tutoring others in the ways of political combat.
According to the website of the 27th International Gay & Lesbian Leadership Conference, put on by the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute and held at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston over the weekend, Dumanis was billed as the headliner of a breakout session entitled, "Climbing the Career Ladder."
The conference was sponsored in part by San Diego's Sempra Energy, according to the institute's website.
A description of the Dumanis event asks, "Can you get to the next level? Hear from elected and appointed officials about how they climbed the career ladder and discuss the opportunities and challenges involved as you seek to make a difference as a public official."
Besides Dumanis, panelists listed were Fred Hochberg, chairman of the federal Export-Import Bank, and Mark Pocan a Wisconsin State Representative and congressional candidate
Other San Diego politicos contributing their knowledge to the gathering were Democratic Assemblywoman Toni Atkins and San Diego city councilman Todd Gloria, who was listed on a panel entitled "The Real L Word: Talking to Labor about America's Future."
"The Labor community and the LGBT community have been allies on many political fronts over the years," says a description.
"This panel of Labor leaders and LGBT elected officials will discuss current issues affecting all working families – from state and local budget cuts to the new war on collective bargaining. Join us for this roundtable discussion about protecting middle- and working-class families in your community."
