Coop's West Texas Barbecue
I've been eating Coop's BBQ since he sold it out of the back of his SUV. Pork ribs are consistently tender, juicy and well seasoned, I like that he offers a hot as well as mild sauce. Call ahead and your order will be waiting or ready soon. Good service as well. His wife is a real sweetheart.— January 8, 2014 1:49 p.m.
Cafe Sevilla Nightclub
I love this place as well. I really enjoy the seafood crepe and the lamb brochette. The meat is seasoned well and very tender. I also enjoy the pomergranite Mojito, it's one of the best I've had. Make a reservation if you want to avoid a wait for a table.— December 13, 2013 8:57 a.m.
Steak and no mistake
I've eaten dinner here several times but have never come for happy hour. I love to save a buck and know they offer quality food. Putting this place on my list for our next girl's night out . Thanks again for another great tip. I really need your job!!!!— December 6, 2013 2:55 p.m.
Tacos el Paisa
Thanks for the tip. I'm a big fan of al pastor tacos and the original Pokyland on 27th and Main St did them very well. New owners took over and their pastor tacos were no comparison. Can't say I've found any place comparable since then. I will give this place a try because of the meat cone in the photo. You can't do good al pasor tacos without it. It'd be like getting your Gyro meat out of a box. Hope its as good as it looks. Thanks again.— December 6, 2013 2:43 p.m.
A lone, meaty beef bone.
That bone is making me salivate. Much meater than the ones at Phil's. I can't wait to try this place.— November 26, 2013 2:28 p.m.
Totally stuffed at Sherman's
I've eaten here once and like the article said this gringo went for the tacos. Highly didappointed. For $2.50 the the carne asada taco should have been 99 cent. Didn't have as much meat as the street tacos for a buck and they didn't even have cilantro. Also ordered a salad which was also disappointing. Skimpy on the toppings and I left hungry after spending almost 10 bucks. Went up the street to the Jamaican place a got a meat patty. Might or might not go back to try the burger.— August 21, 2013 2:25 p.m.
Tour de Cheesesteak: stage 2
Been to Eddie's a few times. I'm not impressed. I used to like Lemon Grove Deli's cheesesteak but I think they changed owners or the cook. Wasn't great last time I tried one. I like McGonagle's in National City.— April 12, 2013 2:37 p.m.
La Fachada Logan Heights: Gordita vs. mulita
I brought a co-worker here for lunch today from your recommendation. Almost missed it because it sits so far back from the sidewalk. Went up and down Imperial and had to ask a pedestrian. Finally saw the blue bldg behind the fence. Had a carne asada gordita and Posole soup, which is hard to find done well in San Diego. Everyone serves Muendo but Posole is a rare find. We both liked the gordita and he preferred it over the mulita he had orderd as well. We both said we would come again and it's good to know they're open until 3am.— April 4, 2013 2:04 p.m.
Marine Room: The restaurant that time forgot
I've never dined at the Marine Room although I know it to be an icon of fine restaurants in La Jolla. After reading your piece I think I need to drag my hubby off the couch for what appears to be an extradoinary dining experience. Thanks for the tip.— April 2, 2013 7:35 a.m.
Has fear of crime kept you from visiting Mexico?
My Dad used to do business in Tiajuana and my Mom liked the race track in TJ when I was a kid so I never had a problem traveling to Mexico. As an adult I used to travel to Puerto Nuevo outside Rosarito Beach frequently (6-7 times yr) for lobster and have stayed at Rosarito Beach Hotel a few times, but when all the killings started a few years ago we stopped going. I've been to Cabo San Lucas in 2009. Puerto Valleta in 2011 and going to Cabo again in May. Always felt safe there. I think if you use common sense, stay in the tourist areas and use main roads you can be safe almost anywhere you travel.— April 1, 2013 8:22 a.m.
