Letter to the Editor SDUT published Saturday 03/30/13, not that you could possibly find your way to it online since the sdut's website is truly one of the absolute worst i've ever encountered in my entire life:
Firstly, the fact that post-menopausal women have always been allowed to marry makes it clear that marriage has never been "about" procreation; period.
Secondly, there is a difference between civil and religious law, and no one is asking anybody else, least of all the US Supreme Court, to rule on any matter of religious law.
Finally, that every American citizen should have and must have the exact same rights and responsibilities under the law as every other American citizen is obvious, undeniable, and inevitable.
Right is right, regardless of whose religion says it's wrong, and it is right that every American has the legal right under the law to marry any other American he or she decides to marry if that other American wishes to marry him or her. Period.
