Walter David Hunt, 44, took photos and video of a teenaged girl while she was in the bathroom by placing his cell phone near the floor and getting the images through the space under the door, according to evidence shown to a jury this week.
Hunt admitted to Escondido Police in a taped interview that he photographed his girlfriend’s daughter because of “my curiosity.” He also told them, “I let my wants exceed my needs.”
Walter David Hunt II is known as TAZMAN to friends in his motorcycle club, and “My friends and enemies all call me Dave,” the jury learned.
Dave Hunt said he had been dating the girl’s mother, who is now 48, for about four years and they all lived together in the woman’s trailer home.
Investigators found nude photos of the now-18-year-old girl in Hunt’s two cell phones and a Playstation device. They also found a peep hole drilled through a wall in the back of Hunt’s walk-in closet that looked into the girl’s bathroom.
Hunt’s girlfriend looked through his cell phone while he was in the shower and found the photos of her daughter, according to attorneys’ statements. The mother immediately went to police the same morning, November 8, 2011. Investigators determined the inappropriate photos were taken during September and October of that year, according to evidence.
Today Hunt was found guilty of 6 misdemeanor counts of secretly videoing a person and invading privacy with a concealed camera. The same jury was unable to come to a verdict on the one felony charged, possession of child porn.
Hunt will be back in court Friday to determine his custody status, and the prosecutor is expected to declare if she will be pursuing further action on the child porn charge. Prosecutor Judy Taschner said it will be up to the judge to determine if Hunt will have to register as a sex offender, when Hunt is sentenced at a future, unnamed date.
