BREAKING NEWS: Just heard on this site that Adam Lambert's appearance on Good Morning America has been cancelled due to the controversy over his AMA performance!!!! How f***ing ridiculous is that!!!!!!!!

Adam Lambert's performance at the AMAs generated a lot of controversy, according to news reports, because he "simulated fellatio" and because he kissed a guy. The performance was edited for the West Coast.

I don't get it. If Madonna can kiss a girl, why can't Adam kiss a guy? I thought the kiss was extremely hot!!!

(By the way, I have had to change sites a few times due to the video being pulled every time it's posted somewhere. It's posted again at the moment! This site you have to scroll down a bit.)

Yep, been waiting for the album, and what a performance, what a way to start the sales!

Hottest performance I've seen since Ricky Martin rocked the house.

  6. Well, I love Adam & thought he should've won AI (although it's best for him that he didn't). His level of professionalism was just so far above everyone that had ever been on AI before, there was no comparison. He's unbelievably talented.

I'd already heard this song on YouTube when it came out. Didn't like it then, don't like it now. The whole California S&M "requirement" is a pretty sore subject. No pun intended.

Somewhere, there's a middle ground to be found between being shoved in a closet and letting your sexuality be absolutely exploited for the sake of sensationalism and ratings. I hope he finds it, and stands his ground there when he does.

  7. He was simply and flatly robbed, AG!!!! Does American Idol have any credibility left????

I love love love the song, it is so right for him!!!! And I'm betting he loves it too, probably asked for something like this!!!

Adam is a pretty smart cookie, from all I seen and heard from him, and no rookie to the music industry. I'm sure he'll be fine. It will be nice to see someone who knows what to do with their fame play the game right. He's made a few minor mistakes so far, but I think once he finds the right balance, there will be no stopping him. :)

  8. "He was simply and flatly robbed, AG!!!! Does American Idol have any credibility left????"

I'm not entirely sure whether the AI voting process is on the up & up, but I think it probably is. From what I could tell on the night of the voting, he won clearly on both coasts, but unfortunately, there's the rest of the country to consider.

Apparently, he just about gave the heartland a heart attack.

    LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!

Well, let me say that there was enough discussion on the message boards to convince me that there were technical issues with the voting ONCE AGAIN!, which cost Adam the title.

It is fairly well documented that technical issues are what cost Clay Aiken the title in the second season. You would have thought that they would have figured out how to get past those by now. NO ONE CAN POSSIBLY BELIEVE THAT talentlesskrisallenwho? should have prevailed over Adam Lambert.

AI is a joke, a big joke.

    By CuddleFish 3:38 p.m., Nov 23, 2009 > Report it

  10. Fascinating topic, Cuddle. I did not see this actual event on tv, but have a response to your question. IMO, and in the opinion of a lot of more attentive scholars of queer theory, homoerotic PDA between men is far more threatening to society than displays between women.

Why? Think about it: Erotic expression between women, such as in otherwise heterosexual porn, is not only acceptable, it is encouraged, as long as it is regulated by the dominant cultural powers that be, often epitomized by the concept of the "male gaze." (For more on this concept of the male "gaze” and normative gender roles, start with Judith Butler's groundbreaking "Gender Trouble," though there's tons more updated theory out there in sociology about the public's reactions to gender expression, what is considered ok and not ok, and why).

    By SDaniels 5:25 p.m., Nov 23, 2009 > Report it

  11. In other words, erotic exchange between women in porn is condoned and even fetishized, as long as it is understood that these "lesbians" are performing for the male spectator and participant, and that of the phallic is still valued as the most desired and powerful experience possible. The women "play," but the serious business of heterosexual penetration and other classic sexual acts controlled by the male actor is still, as it were, the "main course." Should the acts between women be the main event, then this is still acceptable as long as the women are completely feminized, open to all forms of sexual union with male participants, and it is understood that they are performing for the male spectator. The figure of the phallic may still be present in such scenes, in the form of a sexual toy necessary to their pleasure, and of course we must remember that these scenes are completely regulated by those who create them, market them, and purchase them—predominantly male. Actual sexual expression between lesbian women who do not prefer the company of men, and who may appear to be non-feminine, has nothing to do with this idealized ‘play,’ and would be seen as threatening, out of control, and transgressive of accepted notions of gender roles.

Society condemns what it doesn’t understand, and what seems to violate or transgress normative values for sexual behavior and expression. Sexualized PDA between gay men breaks all the rules of family values, in that one partner is always seen (in the limited, normative social view) to be feminized, and the other to take on the hyper-masculine role. Males who display feminine characteristics are still ridiculed even within gay culture, while the figure of the “Chip,” or the hypermasculinized gay male is seen as more socially acceptable than that of the “sissy,” or feminized male. There just isn’t yet much socially inscribed and acceptable space of articulation for gay male desire, though media is working to change this situation. Changes to traditional religious views are also constantly attempted, along with the institutionalization of proudly transgressive expressions of male desire within the public consciousness, against our limiting and exclusionary definitions of desire and the family structure. For now, we have men in drag that are nonthreatening to social consciousness, such as a “Tootsie” or a “Mrs. Doubtfire;” characters with the ironic purpose of crossing gender boundaries in order to regain and heal their damaged family structures. I could go on and on, but will stop here ;)

  16. sorry..

That AMERICAN MUSIC awards show was absolutely awful. Dreadful. All the women, from Underwood to Key's second song, were pretty much the same song ANd terrible. GAGA at least showed some kind of 'texture' with her second song at the piano.

The rest of the show was an attack on the ears and music in general.

Whitney Houston; it was sad to watch her. Wish they would have shown BOBBY BROWN's response to her dribble.

If this was the best of today's music, oye. Bring back the 70s!! It was that bad!

And sorry, Surfpuppy, Adam Lambert's screaming isn't going to sell. I bet his album tanks. And I thought he would, after last season, beat them all..not now. He blew chunks..but so did the rest of the show he was on. And I waited THREE HOURS for Adam's crappy finale...It was Terrible, as Charles Barkley would say

    By CuddleFish 10:15 p.m., Nov 23, 2009 > Report it

  21. Adam Lambert, and David Cook for that matter, even Archaletta, should never have been on that show. I just watched a DVD of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS made several years ago starring Val Kilmer. Co-starring ADAM LAMBERT.

I am glad CHRIS did win. Not because he is more talented than Lambert, no one would say he it, but because he was actually from 'nowhere' where as Lambert was already in Broadway shows, and made for DVD plays (the above mentioned Commandments)

AI is a joke because it allows these performers who already have their feet in the door to even compete. And when some unknown (like even Clay Aiken) nearly wins, or wins (Chris) I'm all for it.

Its like when a small market team wins the World Series against the big spenders. For that reason, I'm glad CHRIS did win. He represents what AI claims to be; a show where people from nowhere have a chance.

Now..having said that, I hope Lambert has a good career. But I do not think he is a better singer than David Cook. A better screamer? Yes. But his over-the-top antics will catch up with him as Boy George's did him. People will tire of it; look at Prince.

    By RobertScorpio 10:40 p.m., Nov 23, 2009 > Report it

  22. How did Boy Georges "over the top antics" catch up with him?

That dude (who as Steven would say, looks like a lady) had a string of hits, for many many years. Culture Club was hardly a one-hit wonder.

Even 80s stars that didn't have some crazy look or stage presence, aren't really having hits today.

  34. I just read Adam's comments. He doesn't say whether or not he would have done that song or not. And if he was going to do that song again, and didn't, then this same crowd would still be all over ABC for not letting a gay guy do his stuff on GMA. Because that is what this is all about, Adam even admits to that in his statement.

I don't watch the morning shows. If Madonna or Britany, or some other female, was on those morning shows kissing other women, and ABC said no to Adam? Then I would be supporting Adam to be able to do that on GMA too. But, as far as I know, none of the lesbian acts have been on those morning shows.

Some of you seem to think this kind of performance is okay for morning TV; I don't. It doesn't belong there, IMO, and as far as I can tell, it isn't. Then again, there's always Bert and Ernie. So maybe I'm wrong.

Adam Lambert had previously performed on GMA. He had stated that he intended to do ballads on the show tomorrow. This is NOT ABOUT ADAM.

Stupid move on GMA's part. Adam had given clear warning the other night that he felt it was discriminatory to edit his performance on the West Coast. He would be a fool not to sue the pants off ABC for cancelling his show.

This might just be the thing that breaks down the wall. :)

  37. This is TOTALLLY about Adam and what he did on the AMA. We wouldn't be having this conversation had that perfomance not happened. He even admits to it. He admits that aspects of that perfomance were not known by ABC. Well, they know about it now, an decided they don't want some gay guy simulating oral sex on another guy on their morning show; good for them. CBS is okay with it apparently; good for them.

You may feel GMA was stupid, but I don't. They, ABC, have every right to decide what is or isn't on their show. His lawsuit would be laughed out of court. His being on GMA is NOT a right. You need to seperate your views from reality.

And if the people in the midwest don't want to see that kind of stuff, then they have just enough right to say they don't want to see it as you have the right to say you want to see it. You laugh at them, I laugh at you for laughing at them. I guess freedom to demand what they want is only okay if they want what you want; in this case, gay guys kissing on GMA.

It's up to ABC to decide if they will or will not have that kind of performance on at 7am. They have decided not to. Don't like it? Turn the channel.

  42. Lord, some people can't read plain English:

Adam Lambert had previously stated that he would do ballads on GMA. He made many many many statements regarding his performance on the AMAs recognizing that it was a different format. All performers, if they aren't idiots, realize that they have to tailor their show to the audience. Adam knows that. If anyone believes Adam Lambert was going to come out at 7 in the morning to kiss men and simulate sex on GMA, they need to get their head examined. Not even the people at GMA believe that. They caved.

The good news is, this will be a win for Adam Lambert, and a bigger win for civil rights. GMA may have done America a favor.

I don't know Adam Lambert from Adam West, but so what if a lot of people are pissed off by ABC's cancellation of Lambert? They cancel him based on fear of his being offensive, and people will react to it. ABC looses viewership, and either they care enough to change their policy or they don't.

I'm missing your correlation between lesbian or gay performers kissing on stage and the agenda of an elite left-wing whacko. Why would you care enough to argue the point? And more importantly, why would you be so insulting about it?

  46. More 'Gay agenda' dreaming on your part Cuddlefish. Most of the people in this country, even Gay parents, do not what that kind of performance on morning tv for kids to see; be it women kissing women or men kissing men. You wish it was the other way, maybe, but we both know; it isn't.

Just keep pushing this kind of agenda and all you will do is encourage the people in the middle to re-elect the Republicans. Its trending that way already, so just go ahead and push them over edge by 'pounding your chest' for a cause (gay sex for morning TV shows) that most people will never support.

As for what Adam says and does? He has already demonstrated that he doesn't always do what he says he is going to do. MTV is where he should take his act, especially that kind of act. Not on morning TV.

Oh, I know you "gay agenda" folks will bash me, call me homophobe and all that? But let me state again, since CUDDLEFISH and MAGICFIVE can't read..follow along my gay friends...

I am someone who favors precident. IF same sex kissing has already been shown on GMA, or the other morning shows, between women, and if Adam was not allowed to do his same sex kiss with another man, then I would be the first person in line saying that they (ABC) were wrong, and Adam not only shoud be able to, but should take them to court. But IF same sex kisses have not been shown, and by the way I don't want them to be, then I do not support him.

  50. I think the network should've talked to Adam before cancelling his performance. They could've expressed their concern. And by then, Adams people would've said "Hey...this isn't the best career move." And, everyone would be tuning in, wanting to see controversy (and probably not getting it). So, it was lame for them to cancel his appearance.

But, Adam is kind of sticking his foot in his mouth, when he keeps saying "There's a double standard." and he goes on and on about women doing these kisses.

Well, two problems with Mr. Lamberts logic on that one. First, when Madonna kissed Britney, A LOT OF PEOPLE were up in arms over that as well. Adam would have a point if nobody said a word about it, and now they are about him kisssing another man.

Second, from what I heard, Adam didn't just kiss a guy. He also simulated oral sex with another. Now, I wouldn't put that by Madonna...but as far as I know, she never did that on live TV (although she did it with an Evian bottle backstage in a documentary I saw once).

  51. In a statement, Dick Clark Productions executives and show producers said, "Due to the live nature of the show we did not expect the impromptu moment in question."

A source, who was in attendance at the AMA rehearsals, said that the sex act was not one of the dance moves that had been rehearsed. "It wasn't there; it did not happen," the source says.

While Lambert admitted that the lip-lock was a spur of the moment event -- "Adrenaline is crazy and sometimes things just happen," he told Rolling Stone on Sunday night -- it's uncertain when the dance choreography was altered to include the controversial head-to-crotch move.

"We had this great dance number totally staged. It's a sexy song about seduction and power and I was just doing the lyrics justice," he told Rolling Stone. "My intention was not to try and create a controversy. But if a controversy ensues, then so be it."

Bull; he wanted the controversy to sell records. Its the oldest trick in the book. So it cost him GMA. Tough s***. Good for ABC for, ahem, SHAFTING him.

  55. Gnzxxonxy....Oh, huh? Another performance circa whatever that pushed the envelope? I'm shocked. I love Adam and really enjoy his style. Bronski Beat meets Elvis. And I love his take it or leave it attitude as well. And there you go. Take it or leave it. Kids will catch this on their various sources of information and it does not matter who cancels his appearance on their show. It will only make him that much more popular, and do not be surprised when your son goes to school in regular clothes and goes to the bathroom to make-up his face and don BLACK SKINNY JEANS. Because both girls and boys are going to take notice.

  56. Ms. Grant, I agree about the kids. They already know, they aren't going to be shocked or unduly influenced by any of this. Hell, I've seen Jagger and Richards do more shocking things to each other on stage than this Adam Lambert guy. Iggy Pop was jailed for some of his shenanigans. Lambert is pretty tame by comparison.

Bottom line, I would love to get into a debate about rock stars and the things they do. I have seen some things that would make your hair curl. Have you seen THE CRAMPS!!!!?????

On a side note: Good lord, is there a similar style of writing by this General Hospital guy and our craptacular Josh Board? I just noticed the comma collateral.

And as for Prince? I have ALL of the albums Prince has put out. ALL OF THEM. Even when Warner Brothers was trying to muzzle him. My favorite song is called THUNDER, and my second favorite song is ELECTRIC CHAIR.

He also, I believe, gave the best SUPERBOWL HALFTIME performace...ever! Made "THE BOSS" look like high-school act.

Having said that? His last album tanked. Barry Manilow also sales out concerts, has a Vegas gig, but no one is going to say that guy is "in" any more. Prince's prime was in the 80s, we all know this. And who among us would have thought that Prince would have been considered the normal one, when compared with MJ.

"There are a lot of double standards as far as that goes," the singer told The Associated Press a few days earlier. "We've seen female pop and rock performers do that for the last 10 years. They've been very provocative, owning their power and sexuality. You just don't see men doing it very often. And I'm hoping to break down that double standard with this number."

    By SDaniels 12:53 a.m., Nov 25, 2009 > Report it

  67. To be honest, I am not the world's greatest speller; you all should know that by now.

And as for Luke? I never really cared for him. In fact, they had so ruined his character, by the time I stopped watching, I think he became a bafoon. I much preferred Robert, because Robert was, for the most part, a man with strong values. And, this is the kicker? I think Laura's life would have been far less tramatic had she stayed with Scotty.

Luke is one of those so called 'gray' characters. Time for some GH history, so pull up a seat, pour something to drink, and prepare to flash back.

Bobbie Spencer was the town slut. She also had her eye on Scotty. In those days Scotty was the clean-cut son of a local laywer. Scotty ended up marrying Laura Webber, a girl with a troubled pass, but all in all, a nice girl.

Bobbie asked her cousin, a two-bit hood named Luke Spencer, to come to town and try to seduce Laura. Well, you know soaps. They had that "TWILITE" thing already going. You know; sweet girl falls in love with the roughneck (Luke) because, deep inside, women are slutty whores who want to run off with the local hoods and live that life on the edge. GH has been doing this for decades. Yes, I know, real women aren't like this and they don't...ummmm...who am I kidding?

Laura runs off with Luke, they evenutally get married, but Luke is just a magnet for trouble; luckily, so is Laura. Their marriage attracted 60 million viewers when it aired. But their marriage wouldn't last for long, and eventually the actor playing Luke (Tony Geary) and the actress playing Laura (Genie Francis) left the show for 'greener' pastures, came back, left, then came back, then left....its a soap.

I'm sure CUDDLEFISH and the others will love the fact that Tony Geary lives for half of the year in Amsterdam with, supposedly, his male 'life partner'. I may have just increased GH's viewership by one!!! Yeah!!!

Robert Scorpio was the superspy of the show; and he is 100% hetero. Oh oh, I think I just lost that new viewer. Once Luke left the show, Robert, and his on/off wife, Anna, took over and the show got even better.

Now adays? I haven't watched GH in the past, oh, 10+ years. Mainly because Robert left and the show became obsessed with mobsters like Sonny Corrinthos and his lackey, Jason Quartermain. The show is utterly stupid, which is a relative term for soaps I realize, and bends over backwards to showcase slutty wives, slutty teenagers, its really just a slut-fest, and ratings are down.

    History lesson over

No one disputes there is a double-standard.

However, I spent all night searching the net and can find no proof that any lesbian acts have been featured on MORNING TV on ABC-CBS or NBC. None. So, he is blurring the subject with his whining about a double standard that does not exist in the realm of morning TV. And if ABC doesn't want that kind of display on their morning show, from either women or men, then good for them.

But go ahead, keep jumping up and down and demand that Adam give a guy a blow job on GMA. See where that gets you.

  79. "It has been years since I've watched a morning television show. And won't be watching one again soon -- boring."

Maybe now you understand why Good Morning America cancelled Lambert? It's because people who enjoyed his sexual moves at the Music Awards aren't the same people who enjoy shows like Good Morning America. He mock-fellated his way out of the GMA target audience. Duh.

Once GMA cut Lambert, the story took on new life. As pockets of protest erupted in the blogosphere, CBS Early Show had to re-book Lambert, just to capitalize on the controversy. And now as the dust settles, Lambert ends up with way more publicity than he would have without the kiss and the face-to-crotch maneuver, just in time to help boost his new record sales.

Someone called it in an earlier comment - Lambert did a number from the Madonna book of marketing strategies. Nice of all of us to so willingly play our uncompensated parts.

By the way, the fellow Adam kissed on the AMAs was there today, playing guitar right next to him, and at one point during a guitar interlude, squeezed right up next to him; I'm sure the censor's sweating finger was poised over the bleep button the whole two hours. So Adam managed to have the last laugh, after all. Good for him! :)

  81. Just yesterday I was accosted on the streets of Hillcrest by a gaggle of high school girls who said my fedora was "hot" and "like Adam Lambert's". I asked who Adam Lambert was and they said that made the hat even hotter, not TRYING to be like Adam Lambert.

Now, as much as I appreciate being accosted by groups of girls anywhere outside of TJ, the encounter had left me shaken. Who was this Lambert character and where the hell did he get my hat before I did?

This harsh adolescent slap from the cold palm of reality has forced me to confront my all-encompassing ignorance of popular culture. I'm about to go to google.com and type the words "Adam Lambert" in the query box. I already know what will happen. It will be like the time, not long ago, when all my sister talked about was "Twilight" and for some reason the only image I could summon to mind was that of a Turkish hash dealer I once met in Golden Gate Park. I felt old, disconnected, over the hill.

So, Adam Lambert, here I come. I want my effin hat back.
