When Hillary was running for President I wanted to get behind her. I wanted her to give me a reason to fight for her...and then she kept lying. And each time she lied, my stomach sank a little more, and I knew I could not support her. She was going to lose because she would do anything to win.

Todd's camp is doing ANYTHING and I mean anything to win. As if tearing down signs painted by 8 year olds wasn't enough, their latest hit piece in the form of a mailer is nothing less than contemptible, deceitful and irresponsible.

It lists some of Stephen's supporters on the back implying they are special interests particularly developers and says "Say No to Backroom Deals".

But the strange thing is that some of these "special interests" are well known, well respected community members that have been tirelessly fighting developers. I mean Dan Soderberg, are you kidding me? He is a photographer and one of our greatest allies. He regularly comes to council meeting and speaks out against development projects. And Tom Mullaney from "Friends of San Diego" who led the fight against the 301 University project, Roxanne Govari led the fight against the expansion of Our Lady of Peace school in the Normal Heights/University Heights single-family neighborhood.

You make our point for us. This is the evidence you are using to suggest Stephen is secretly working for developers? These are our heroes and you have the audacity to list them as developer special interests.

Why don't you throw Pat Flannery on there, I mean he is a realtor after all and I'm sure you would have thrown me on there too had I been able to make a big enough contribution to Stephen. After all I am an aspiring architect.

This speaks volumes about your fact checking and those accounting eyes you like to brag about--those accounting eyes that would have caught the SEDC scandal had you been on the case. Really, you would have been able to see all that, but you couldn't see that Dan Soderberg is an architectural photographer, not a developer. And why didnt those accounting eyes see the illegal e-mails you sent to Nancy Graham and the rest of CCDC...9 times.

The thing with Stephen's people is that we won't do anything to win. We won't tear Todd Gloria signs down even after he has torn all of ours down that were next to them along Park Blvd. We won't knock on people's doors and lie to them about who is behind Todd. We won't brag that certain organizations are behind Stephen ....unless they actually are. We won't say anything unless it is clearly substantiated with facts.

And if we don't win this race, it will be precisely for that reason, because we will not do anything to win.

PS Here is the information about the organization that created this hit piece from honorable citizen Maggie McCann...

These may represent the true special interests in this race.

The main funders of the effort are LGBT activist Bob Lehman and his patron, Eugene Heytow, a wealthy banker from Chicago who has a home in Rancho Santa Fe. Lehman has personally contributed $540 to Gloria’s campaign fund. They have each contributed $5,000 toward the mailer. Additionally, Thomas Sudberry, the President of Sudberry Properties, the developer of the recently approved Quarry Falls development, provided $1,000 for the mailer, ostensibly to support the position on two propositions. Thomas Sudberry, a registered City lobbyist, had previously donated $540 to the Todd Gloria Campaign. His wife, Jane Sudberry has also contributed the maximum amount of $540 to Gloria. Other registered City lobbyists who are employees of Sudberry Properties and who have contributed to Gloria’s campaign include Stephen Haase, $540, Jeffrey Bradley, $270, Marco Sessa, $540, and Colton Sudberry, $270. With the possible exception of Lehman, none of these people live in District 3.

The organization that was created to put out the campaign mailer, San Diego Voter Education Project, lists as its Treasurer registered City lobbyist Paola Avila. Mr. Avila personally contributed $540 to Todd Gloria’s campaign. One of Mr. Avila’s clients is Our Lady Of Peace parochial school; he serves as their Community Outreach specialist. Perhaps it is not a coincidence that Roxanne Govari is listed as a supporter of Stephen Whitburn in the hit piece mailer. Mr. Avila is not a resident of District 3.

Don't forget how Gloria's buddy-boys log on using different handles but post the same fake message again, and again.

It's pathetic, really, to see how desperate they are. Outright lies and distortions are the only tool they've got left.

This election is about reform.

Will we elect Whitburn, and Change San Diego?

Or will Gloria's constant chorus of lies find its mark, deceiving the voters and continuing the culture of corruption in San Diego? If he gets elected through this slime, he'll forever be known as "Greasy Gloria".

I know Dan Soderberg. He's got two small units in back of his Normal Heights home that he rents out to help pay the mortgage. That makes him a "property manager", I suppose.

But what about the "Architect" who is really a "Landscape Architect"...or the evil attorney from Texas, who is either an agent of George Bush himself...or Whitburn's brother, who happens to be supporting his candidacy?

I guess Whitburns sister, who runs a book store, and his other brother who is a professor, just couldn't make it onto Todd Gloria's hit list.

What a pathetic excuse for a campaign. Gloria doesn't have any positive issues to sell himself with. Just a sad history of being Susan Davis' calendar clerk. So now he's spreading lies about Stephen Whitburn.

My bet is that the Gloria campaign is in a complete panic.

"We won't say anything unless it is clearly substantiated with facts."

Let's discuss the facts: 1. Stephen Whitburn is trying to steal this election by greasing his campaign with nearly $200,000. Yet he has never made more than $70K a year. Smells fishy!?!?

  1. Stephen Whitburn does not want to engage votes and actually have to communicate his views. He would rather have his minions spend all day writing lies in the blogs.

  2. Fred Williams is a Stephen Whitburn minion.

  3. Stephen Whitburn accepted an out-of-state contribution from a Texas attorney at the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. This firm was lead counsel for George W. Bush in Bush vs. Gore, which gave Bush the election and sent our country on a spiraling downward path.

  4. Whitburn claims to be a San Diegan, but he is from back East, doesn’t own a home in our City and has moved at least three times in the last 8 years. If elected, most District 3 residents will have been in their area longer than their councilmember. Whitburn is not an involved community member, but instead a calculating opportunist.

  5. Whitburn’s campaign propaganda claims he will stand up to developers and lobbyists. In fact, Whitburn has accepted thousands of special interest dollars from: Developers, Real Estate Executives and Mortgage lenders, including campaign cash from firms that have foreclosed on hundreds of San Diego’s working families. High-priced Downtown Lawyers, including contributions from a law firm whose lead lawyer is in Lompoc Federal Prison for multiple felonies, including, fraud and racketeering. Oil and Gas Executives responsible for outrageous gas prices that are gouging middle class working families.

  6. Whitburn proudly touts the endorsements he received from a convicted criminal. John Hartley, a former candidate for District 3, plead guilty to a lewd conduct in public charge during the election and is listed as a proud supporter of Whitburn. After his plea, Hartley was banned from his day job-- substitute teaching in the San Diego Unified School District.

  7. Whitburn and his campaign cannot be trusted.

OK, these are not facts "kensington". Com'on we are not in 6th grade--these are what are called unsubstantiated allegations. These are FACTS about this hit piece mailer...

From Maggie McCann The main funders of the effort are LGBT activist Bob Lehman and his patron, Eugene Heytow, a wealthy banker from Chicago who has a home in Rancho Santa Fe.

The organization’s assistant treasurer is James Sutton, a Republican attorney from San Francisco who is treasurer of many Republican campaigns. Sutton has the distinction of being fined the highest amount in the state, $240,000, for running afoul of campaign finance laws. See the attached news article.

The irony is that the mailer identifies residents of District 3 who have organized grass-roots efforts to fight against ultra-dense development in their neighborhoods. For each of the people listed in the mailer, Todd Gloria has taken donations from a developer or lobbyist on the other side of the issue. 301 University – Gloria has a campaign contribution from developer Robert Lawrence. OLP expansion – Gloria has campaign contributions from OLP’s lobbyists and at least one employee. Kensington Terrace – Gloria has contributions from Terrace Partners’ lobbyist, Mitch Berner. There are dozens of lobbyists lined up against SOHO who have contributed to Gloria. And Perry Dealy contributed while still working for Manchester, who has plenty of other representatives for the Navy Broadway project among the other lobbyists.

So lets try again "kensington", something more along these lines because as it is, you still have an "F" on this assignment.

Alright historymatters... let's go back to school. How about basic math? Try this problem:

You have a candidate that has never made more than $65,000 a year in his life. He magically finds $200,000 to grease his own campaign. When you add those together what do you get?

Answer: A crooked politician trying to steal an election.

By the way, tell your school buddy Whitburn to clean up his campaign and stop spreading lies in an effort to steal the election.

Please, pathetic just like your mailer. You guys shot yourselves in the foot by sending that. There are alot of good people you put on that list that are more than angry and more than motivated.

Hillcrest_Preservationist Oct. 29, 2008 @ 5:08 p.m.

The main backers of the mailer are two of Todd Gloria's closest political allies, both of whom are toadys for Nicole Murray-Ramirez, an LGBT community leader who wants HIS golden boy at Council so that HE can continue to be considered "the" person in the LGBT community listened to by the Council. $10,000 spent -- $5,000 apiece -- by millionaire Bob Lehman and his multi-millionaire patron Eugene Heytow. Heytow is a Chicago banker with a home in Rancho Santa Fe.

Both Lehman and Heytow are major donors to GOP causes, locally and nationally, by the way. You can check. Easily.

How interesting.

The turd who is posing as me accuses someone else of "spreading lies".

Don't believe anything from the following fictitious posters:

"Fred_williams" Note the lower case "w". What kind of political scumbags would impersonate me online? The kind of scum who support Gloria...

"Stephen Davis of South Park" doesn't exist on the voter rolls, but is identical to:

"2muchsense" who has no sense at all, or he wouldn't use multiple identities online. He is also known as:

"kensington" who copy/pastes the identical text when posing as:

"district3resident" who is a shameless liar.

That's five aliases for one slime bag, who is a paid staffer for Gloria's campaign.

Will it backfire? Maybe.

It certainly hasn't fooled anyone here at the Reader, or CityBeat, or VOSD.

What is disappointing is that the admins are ignoring it.

Oh well. If you cowards want to impersonate me and hide behind multiple false identities, all I can do is promise to take a frank, open, and "hands on" approach when I find you.

If you look me up at Golden Hall Tuesday evening, I'll be happy to drag you outside and "explain" my position on this issue to you in a highly personal and very direct manner.

Best,
