Anthology
Menu is very good. Quality of food is excellent. What you have to watch is your liquor; which is massively marked up if not exorbitantly so. And that's why I just say no to Anthology ever again...— October 10, 2009 8:06 a.m.

Maybe the most humorous zombie movie made to date, better then Fido. Production quality is very high, and you'd expect that with marquee star Woody Harrelson in the lead. The gore/carnage factor is good; flesh eating but no dismemberment scenes. It's hi-speed zombies, but not as fast as Rob Zombie's zombies. If you don't like this movie even a little bit, you're a boring stiff and your friends will confirm this. A must see for all zombie fans.— October 10, 2009 7:45 a.m.
Dickey's Barbeque Pit
This maybe the best BBQ in San Diego; real good smokey flavor on the pork ribs. The meat here is smoked, not boiled then finished on the grill; big difference. Unfortunately this new franchise has issues delivering accurate orders. The cooks don't pay attention to special requests, they work on cruise control. Order portions are inconsistent. Been there 5x, each time there was an issue. Management needs to do more training on the staff; if the cooks and servers don't care about service I assume management doesn't either.— July 31, 2009 5:24 p.m.
The Hangover
The movie has its moments, but I think you'll see most of them on the trailer. Maybe I expected too much, but the premise made you demand it. Too unrealistic, too improbable; if you really want mindless entertainment, this movie is for you.— July 31, 2009 5:13 p.m.
Crank: High Voltage
The question isn't how but, why? This movie is a adult cartoon, nothing more. The first movie was at least an original, and ended succinctly. And when you fall out of airplane without a parachute you splatter, period end of story. But miraculously the Jason Statham character survives (just like a Bugs Bunny cartoon) and lives to die and live and die in this sequel. I am a Statham fan and I was compelled to see it because of it, and say to you I regret every minute that I did. Strictly a movie for the video gamer crowd, those are the only ones who can get into this ridiculous mayhem fest.— April 23, 2009 11 a.m.
Hanaoka
This sushi/Japanese restaurant may be the best sushi bar in the South Bay, located in a retail area where Chula Vista/Bonita/National City meets (kind of; from 805 get off on Sweetwater Rd. exit). I've been there many times, and surprising they have a lively business. The sushi prices are ok, just a bit below what you'd pay downtown, but the quality is just as high, and the variety is there. And if it's classic Japanese fare you want, the portions are quite generous, evidenced by the dinner bowl of soba noodles I had one night and the teriyaki chicken on another. The staff is very friendly, as EVERYONE yells thank you/good bye to everyone as they leave. This restaurant has earned their chops; albeit quietly. Definitely worth a visit on your travels below Interstate 8.— March 9, 2009 7:39 a.m.
The Express
Now here is a sports movie/DVD that should have been more than what it is, which is a mediocre movie. The football/action sequences aren't as exciting as I expected they should be. Scenes by themselves are ok, but when they're all stitched together it just seems like there is no synergy, so the overall effect is to me quite frankly, dull. Dennis Quaid's solid effort is not enough to pull it off; the supporting cast is uninspiring, and unfortunately so is the actor playing Ernie Davis, because I can't remember his real name, nor have I ever seen or heard of him since.— March 9, 2009 7:04 a.m.
The International
An international espionage yarn with a beat reminiscent of a '70s era flick. Clive Owen has taken over from Sean Connery as the leading Euro actor playing rough-hewn tough guys who always in need of a shave but look great in spite of it. Women love him and don't know why. Men want to be like him cause he gets women who don't know why. It's a movie relating high finance, war, treachery, and revenge; all the good stuff of classic international intrigue. Our hero wins, sort of. Stay with the story and you'll get it too; that is, how banks own more than your mortgage...— February 22, 2009 10:28 p.m.
Push
It's a Sci-Fi (not a superhero) movie that tells its story in present time. The preview trailers show a lot of action but dramatic scenes actually dominates. If you don't have a strong interest in Sci-Fi, you might get bored waiting for those fight sequences; the intervals are pretty long. The story that holds the movie together is weak, but the backdrop of Hong Kong saves it (but just barely). The ending is suggestive of a "Push 2" sequel, but maybe not such a good idea. Of special note is a great performance by Dakota Fanning, who clearly will NOT be joining the Macaulay Culkin Club for Washed-up Child Actors. She is showing some serious acting chops in her teens, and I suspect she will continue on to be a fine actress in her 20's and beyond.— February 8, 2009 7:09 p.m.

Pure escapism entertainment exclusively for action movie fans. Watch this movie if you want to tune out life for an hour and a half. Liam Neeson does Jason Bourne at 50, and actually does it pretty good. Once you get through the first 20 minutes of setup, the action is non-stop till the end. Bad guys die violently and stay dead; I lost count after 10. Don't look for anything deep, that's not what this movie is about. Just hang on for the ride...— February 1, 2009 5:39 p.m.
