Does Union-Tribune face a digital dearth?
Their job notice terminology of "change agent" and saying they need someone who loves "ambiguity" is pretty funny. Somehow, I think there are better words than "ambiguity" to describe what's happening and it's not a happy situation.— September 29, 2015 4:45 p.m.
San Diego sheriff's costly overtime overpay
Those overtime numbers are pretty shocking. You would think they could manage better.— September 24, 2015 9:35 p.m.
Joan Kroc gets the Hollywood treatment
Never thought of a movie about the Krocs, but they did have interesting lives. Movie probably worth a look.— September 24, 2015 9:44 a.m.
The rise, fall, and re-rise of Nathan Fletcher
The re-rise is is evident. But strange. The ties to Jacobs are pretty tight. Fletcher has been somewhat quiet for a while, traveling the world, but suddenly he is showing up everywhere, at the White House preaching peace, on social media with Lorena Gonzalez, promoting his new foundation, endorsing candidates. He must have plenty of time or plenty of help cuz it's all a little too smooth. Is he part of the Qualcomm layoffs? Might be a good place to start since I don't think he's helping their bottom line. There must be a next move for him.— September 18, 2015 5:18 p.m.
Sweetwater district sued from Texas
The above post by Elevation is completely confusing. I have no idea what he/she is talking about and it did not enlighten me on the story, facts or situation. I have noticed this for a long time on Comments re South Bay education stories, but never read far enough to figure out who's who. I enjoy reading comments but not when it confuses instead of contributing to the discussion.— September 14, 2015 2:27 p.m.
Our pension system’s investment officer jetted off to Amsterdam
Whoops, yes, read that wrong. City not County. Junkets to the left of us, junkets to the right of us. Who wants to control it? It might interfere his next trip.— September 4, 2015 1:28 p.m.
Our pension system’s investment officer jetted off to Amsterdam
Uh, County of San Diego people: feel free to have "investment officer" Jamie invite the Europe Capital Fund people to come to San Diego. If they want San Diego's retirement funds, let them come and make their own case to a team of County finance people. Sit in an office, around a conference table, in the County Building (it has some beautiful views) with several staffers present. Maybe go to lunch together, just to be hospitable. Any junket paid for by a client will cost taxpayers a bundle down the line.— September 2, 2015 7:05 p.m.
Israeli state of mind for Issa staffer
Oh, I'm sure he did indeed come home with lots of policy advice for his boss. Our congressional foreign policy: bought and paid for by the AIPAC lobby. A shame. I don't object to junkets but I definitely object to propagandistic presentations, masquerading as the truth.— August 17, 2015 8:03 p.m.
Council Democrats and staff rack up $10,000 travel tab
Any way some of that travel budget could get transferred to the pothole department?— May 29, 2015 3:57 p.m.
UCSD's $100,000 National Geographic adventure
Hard to believe. Just really hard to believe. $100,000 from their "advertising" budget? Advertising? I thought they got more student applicants every year than they can even handle. But of course, nothing at UCSD is about the students anyway. It's about the research, endorsements, faculty salaries, administrative salaries and padded office staffs, and their promotions or pension deals. I feel sorry for the faculty members who truly focus on doing their jobs, earning their paychecks, and teaching students. And I'm sure there are quite a few of those "old school" types. But not for long. The new model is self-promotion. The ones (especially administrators) who are only out for themselves ruin it for everyone. For a person who gets a big salary to be a leader, I'd say Mr. Khosla has very poor judgment.— May 26, 2015 4:17 p.m.
