Bridge over Chicano Park's language barrier
Alex, are there other public venues in San Diego which feature racist artwork?— December 10, 2017 7:29 a.m.
Succulent thief in North Park and University Heights
Without a police report, actual pix of the action and a license plate number, this is just whining.— June 14, 2017 4:35 a.m.
Mexico is off limits
The guidance sounds sensible; besides, Midshipmen are only adults-in-training.— June 26, 2016 7:39 a.m.
One Night, El Cajon Felt Like Baghdad
So now it's 2016, and a lot more El Cajon nights feel like Baghdad. I was just reading that an "Iraqi community" activist now claims that there are "50,000 Chaldeans" in El Cajon. Well, I suppose he knows what he's talking about. Let's change the name of El Cajon to الصندوق?— April 22, 2016 3:23 p.m.
50,000 Chaldeans live in El Cajon
Exactly where in San Diego did you "watch that bullfight?" Beyond that, sounds like as long as you have a variety of ethnic foods, you don't care what the hell happens to America. What's your problem, Twinkies can't buy your allegiance anymore? America would be far better off importing some cookbooks rather than yet another batch of diversity.— April 22, 2016 2:52 p.m.
A push for decriminalizing homelessness
I thought that the rationale was that progressives felt that being in mental hospitals was somehow discriminatory to the patients. Further, they claimed that the patients would be better served if they were "mainstreamed" into society. Well, how did all that false compassion work out for everyone? And now that most of the street people are mentally ill, progressives have the nerve to blame the disastrous results of their fantasies on Reagan. Yeah, its always somebody else's fault.— February 24, 2016 5:33 p.m.
Opera board not provided with information requested
The Board sounds like it's been on autopilot for years, with many members appearing to be dilettantes or social climbers. My guess would be that such a go along / get along group would probably have handed out sweetheart contracts to management. Now that part of the Board has roused itself, they may well find that they have very little leverage over management. This recent demand for documentation is prime evidence that oversight has been sorely lacking for a long time.— April 6, 2014 8:08 p.m.
New radar installed at South Carlsbad State Beach
A valid concern. The beam is very directional, and the transmitter should include a "mask" that prevents emissions during the portion of rotation when the intended beam is not sweeping the ocean. OTOH, the beam is not as sharp as a laser beam, so there is some energy radiating off in useless directions. OTOH, you don't need a lot of power to see only 20 miles or so (the limit is related to the height of the antenna and the curvature of the Earth). Also, the duty cycle of a radar is very low, so that limits RF exposure too. Bottom line is that it's reasonably safe; you can't cook a hot dog even if you strapped it to the front of the antenna. Your health is much more affected by the nasty sunshine pouring down from that fusion reactor in the sky.— September 25, 2013 1:01 a.m.
New radar installed at South Carlsbad State Beach
Oops Dave, please remove your foot from your mouth. Radar uses electromagnetic waves, commonly called radio waves. Radar uses very high frequencies, with short wavelengths, because its easier to focus the energy and short wavelengths are needed for better resolution. And very short wavelengths are called microwaves.— September 25, 2013 12:51 a.m.
Gun grab
Hence, the need for the 2nd Amendment. (Sigh; I am descending to your level of non-linear thinking.)— April 6, 2013 2:03 p.m.
