The Fall
I went to go see this film last night and WOW. It is a stunning, beautiful, and entertaining film. All the visuals are just astounding, from the B&W train/bridge montage, to the island/palace in the middle of the ocean, to the rice paddy tribal land, and more. It almost seems like the director included a lot of the scenery near the Seven Wonders of the World. Plotwise, it could've been simple, but it contained various little details and plot changes that it stayed entertaining throughout. The film pretty much jumped between the story, and the ongoings at a hospital (especially during the lives of the little girl & the bedridden man). In terms of acting, I think everyone did pretty well. Lee Pace had just enough of the "he looks nice" and "hidden agenda" stigma to his character, which was perfectly leveled out by the young girl, who at first her accent throws you off, but soon ends up adorable. This certainly has become my favorite film of the year, so if you're able to see it, I'd highly recommend it.— October 9, 2008 6:52 p.m.
Romance and Cigarettes
Overall, the movie was pretty slow, but it did have some of the 2007's most memorable movie moments. *Kate Winslet's climaxing facial expressions while riding James Gandolfini was the best scene in ANY movie I've seen this year. *Mary-Louise Parker, Aida Turturro & Mandy Moore in their rock band ("I'm ANGRY!") was priceless. *Susan Sarandon singing along to Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" while the church members did sporadic movements. *Kate Winslet yelling "Let me suck your **** before I go!" after James Gandolfini's speech. While the movie wasn't that great, I did think it was quite impressive that this film finally landed a theatrical release.— October 9, 2008 6:46 p.m.
Dedication
I really loved the film. Billy Crudup had such a unique neurotic character and he played it soooooo well. I had such a great time watching Mandy Moore playing one of her maturest roles to date, seeing how this film wasn't a mainstream comedy, nor was it a complete serious drama. But yeah, overall, the acting was great, the visuals were nice (and gloomy), and I liked how the story progressed.— October 9, 2008 6:43 p.m.
