The Diaper Darling -- Astronauts Gone Wild
Chance; funny you put it like that. Have you ever played monopoly? I'm sure you have, we all have. Well, imagine if you were asked to join a game of monopoly AFTER the other six players had already gone around the board ten times. Would you want to play? Of course not. All the property would have been bought up,and about the only place you could land and not have to pay, maybe, would be free-parking, and chance/community property and visiting jail... Thats what happened in the 1960s. We (blacks) were finally, supposedly, allowed to really play, long after (1789) this country came to be. We were slaves until 1864, and beyond that, Blacks were victims of a racist society where its customs and laws were rigged to favor whites (white men to be more specific). Hell, women are not even guarenteed equal pay in this country. Imagine if you were a black woman? What keeps me in the racist corner are those who believe everything was righted after the civil rights movement. It just isn't so. Better now than in 1953? Yes, even I can not deny that. Heck, we have a black president now. But that monopoly board we were finally allowed to play on didn't start over. And the other players are very reluctant to give up what was gained by others in their name, on the backs of others. Rino— November 12, 2009 3:08 p.m.

The use of words like NOOSE and NI**ER prove your stripes Pistolpete, and proves my point. And since we are only 40 years from the 60s, to deny that racsim (against minorities) exists in our laws and society is just blind ignorance. And as for the NASA woman? If they made a movie out of her story, I wonder what they would call it. THE WET STUFF? Rino— November 12, 2009 2:16 p.m.
The Diaper Darling -- Astronauts Gone Wild
I have gone back and re-read those posts. Josh, indeed, has not said, as of yet, a racial comment. I still don't believe he has never used the N word. I did merge a few of his comments with those by refriedbeanguy and Pistolpete. I made a mistake, and I apologize to Josh. Though, of course, being the hyperactive-ADD blackguy I am, I reserve the right to pounce on him if/when he does. But, magicsfive is right, it is getting old, even for me. I will put the race card back in my wallet, for the time being. This is America you know, so I have to have it ready to use at all times of the day. And some of you make it so easy to use (i.e. Pete and Beanguy). Rino— November 12, 2009 1:16 p.m.

I do agree with my man Josh that D Z Aikins makes the best pastriami on rye in San Diego. Is that better for you magicsfive? Rino— November 12, 2009 1:11 p.m.
The People Celebrities Marry
I am going to admit I have made a mistake. I have gone back to re-read some of the other blogs Josh has done. He has not made, what I would call, a racial remark to me or about blacks. We may not agree on the degree of racsim in this country (I think it is a problem and that blacks/browns have to deal with it more). I was blending my memory of what he has said with the remarks of others (chiefly Refriedbeanguy and Pistolpete) both of whom I regard as racists, such as my self. Josh has been able to pretty much stay right in the middle, which is what a media person should do. I still do not believe he has ever referred to blacks as Ni**ers, because its just too human of a thing to do. I just attribute it to a bad/selective memory (and trying to keep his job) answer. BUT!!! I am not an idiot for believing that racism is still alive and well here in this country. If Josh believes I am an idiot for believing racism is alive, then we will have an issue. But, for now, my man Josh stands above the stigma of being a racist. Me? I'm a racist because I believe I live in a nation that is, sadly to say, still racial at its core. It is getting better, but we are not there yet. We all now the stereotypes; our late night comedians and folks like Chris Rock still bring them up. 1. Asians are good at math but are bad drivers. 2. Mexicans are just farm workers and live in canyons through-out California. 3. Black men like chicken, and we all have a big penis, and we're just ignorant. I have been accused of all three of those items (sure, one of them was true. Ahem) Until those types of walls are broken down, this country will still be, IMO, racist. And, with the job I have, and people I meet everyday with? I can tell you, those walls are still very...very...high. Rino Thats all; for now.— November 12, 2009 12:59 p.m.

And sorry for the spelling gaffos, just incase anyone jumps on them/or my education and lack-there-of. Was in a rush to get it done. Rino— November 12, 2009 12:21 p.m.

Russl; Lets make this easy on Josh. I will ask him three questions on race and let us see where the chips fall, shall we? #1. Does a blackman have the same chances to make it in this country as a white man does (Russl/Josh, most blacks would answer NO to this question) #2. Is the criminal system in this country fair in the treatment of blacks, in contrast with the treatment of whites (most black people would answer, again, no) #3. Is the current attack on black culture (rappers, the way we dress and talk) due to any racial backlash? Most blacks would answer yes. I suspect Josh will answer just as a black person would to all of these questions; given the profession his in, and the reading base of the Readder, he has to. I just want to see it for my self. And then, later, I will get back to your question to me. Rino— November 12, 2009 12:16 p.m.

Josh; a majority of blacks in this country believe that racism is alive and well. So I guess all us negro folk just got it wrong mass'a, and we should just shut up and put a fork in it because, presto, a white man says it isn't so, which means we people of color are just, and let me quote you now, idiots. I never thought I'd say this Josh, but are you sure you're not using that media skill of yours and selling material on the side to...Rush Limbaugh? If not, you should. And as for the zany NASA woman? Makes me wonder what the hygene is like up there on that space-station. Rino— November 12, 2009 11:36 a.m.

And just imagine if you were a black guy, or GASP, a black muslim living here in America. But, of course, the Reader/NRA monthly subscribers seem to agree that color/religous/gender issus are all equal now after just 40 years or so of saying that they are. Uhhhh huh....right. As for Aerosmith? Isn't this the Rolling Stones all over again? I bet Areosmith will go on a farewell tour next year. A tour which will last ten years. Rino— November 12, 2009 10:25 a.m.
Weird Police, Weird DUI
Josh, your are seeing the world through the eyes of a white person. A white person, I might add, who has never used the N word, ever, in his, what, 30+ years. A white person who makes fun of people who die because, well, David Letterman does it so I guess its the cool 'trendy' thing to do. You claim you're not a Dick Cheney wanna be, and yet you label the views of black America silly. Most people who are black, like me, think this country is still racist; you don't. Most black people like me believe this country has been, and still is, skewered toward the white mans success. Those may seem like racist views to you, but for us, it is reality. But then Josh, the perfect white man who has never used the N word, gets to decide what is silly (black views) and what isn't (letterman type humor). Ego my man; Ego has led to many wrongs in this world Josh my man. Thankfully the reach of your voice is limited to the Reader magazine. You're like the moderate Glen Beck. Great company you keep there. Rino— November 11, 2009 9:45 a.m.
