So, you think your boss is a psycho
Very well put. there are pressures on both sides. I think what the good doctors are talking about are the con men and smarmy pretenders who weasel their way up the corporate ladder and step on everybody else in the process. Not the beleaguered boss in a bad economy who's so stressed he forgets his corporate manners for a while. Employees can easily tell the difference. You sound like a good guy to work for.— January 22, 2012 6:37 p.m.
Where Chia Pets Came From
Excellent question, Denise. Pet Rocky Road Ice Cream? Mood ring door knocker to warn visitors in advance if it's one of your cranky days? Can't think of any appropriate Mood Food at the moment. And yes, Chia Mom, the net has many chia vittles to delight your family. Milled chias sound not quite so nuts as chia banana pudding or some gross goop from a blender. Grandma I'm sure will be checking all this out and we'll be regaled with her new seed cuisine. Thx, all— December 31, 2011 5:15 p.m.
Is there really such a thing as luck?
I've always assumed I was inferior to smart animals like dogs and dolphins and cute things like otters. I guess I've never thought that I was also inferior to gophers and weasels. But it's something to think about. Have to admit, I've never seen a Komodo dragon buying a lottery ticket.— November 20, 2011 1:08 p.m.
You Are Hot — on the Inside
Oh, there are way more "pancakes" aka's. At least a dozen or so in the U.S., and internationally, a really big plateful. I'm just waaaaaay to lazy to look 'em all up.— October 20, 2011 11:22 a.m.
How Much Oil in Earth, Newscaster Quirks
The man is right. Proofreader elves on restriction. No pie for them.— October 15, 2011 12:43 p.m.
Left-Handedness, Rats Eating Car Wiring
Nancarrow's tips are usually good ones, but I don't get this oats-and-cement thing. They slog through the cement to get to the oats? What drives them away and keeps them away? Huh? Something's missing here, methinks.— October 8, 2011 10:29 a.m.
Dogs' Lifted Legs, Astrological "Facts," Kiwi Fruit
SurfPuppy, she belongs in Cirque du Soleil. Quel acrobatic chien!— August 4, 2011 11:40 a.m.
Cattle Herds, Tinnitus
Many thanks, Wes, for the vote of confidence. We aim to please, and to make it full of facts as well. And thanks Jay for the added info. I think it's actually a pretty important subject, so I hope people will pay attention. Tinnitus is something that can come on by itself (or at least seemingly by itself), so we don't need to urge it on with bad habits.— April 16, 2011 5:06 p.m.
Want a Government-Issue Laser Gun? Want to Make Moonshine?
Whew! Who knew we had a ray gun expert in Aliceland. As you can see from the answer, most of the weapons are just too large to be carried in the field. Have to be moved around with big machinery that limits its practicality. Thanks AARguy for all the techie details.— April 11, 2011 10:48 a.m.
Dear Friends: You’re Really Not Dear
Johnny: Cheers is a common British salutation to friends you meet on the street or whatever. It's very common in the spoken language, so I suspect this is why it finds its way into emails, letters, whatever. It's a pretty neutral comment (doesn't involve "dear" or any other over-the-top stuff) so it's useful if you're just writing a note to a friend or even to a stranger. I sorta like it and have found myself using it from time to time. Cheers! -- M.A.— March 14, 2011 12:28 p.m.
