Mobile home parks give big to San Diego Democratic Party which in turn gives $20,000 to Mayor Filner
These tactics by park owners are happening state-wide. Billionaire corporate park owners are trying every possible tactic to eliminate rent control so they can raise rents for the space the home sits on, in some cities to as much as $5,000 to force the homeowners out of the homes they OWN. The 9th Circuit Court in Guggenheim v. City of Goleta found that BOTH parties are property owners (homes built in 1980 & after pay PROPERTY TAXES like every other homeowner) and these are contracts between 2 property owners. To alter the contract in favor of park owners AFTER the fact would be a "windfall to park owners" and a "disaster for homeowners." The majority of these homeowners are senior citizens living on fixed incomes, retired veterans and disabled persons. This is the largest segment of affordable housing in California. These homeowners are living independently within their means. To force them out puts them on public assistance & there's a 9 to 12-yr. waiting list in California. $50,000 for a home that can cost in excess of $100,000 plus the costs and stress of lengthy litigation is not enough for homeowners to buy another home elsewhere. If park owners didn't want to comply with state and local laws, they should not have entered into these businesses in the first place. We need to pass legislation to protect our seniors and preserve this housing, especially with thousands of baby boomers creating a greater need for affordable housing.— May 3, 2013 9:45 a.m.
"Papa Doug" backs a Bush with lunch at UT San Diego headquarters
Geez! Didn't America fight a revolution to prevent this country from becoming another dynastic empire?! Funny (or not so funny) that billionaires who quote our founding fathers keep trying to impose their will (and profit-making agendas) on voters. George Washington warned us about forming political parties in his farewell address because they would: "Serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community . . . They are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people, and to usurp for themselves the reins of government; destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion."— April 10, 2013 12:45 p.m.
Will Koch brothers help Papa Doug buy LA Times or parent Tribune Co.?
This is ALL part of the "media consolidation" going on to buy up radio, t.v. & print media nationwide, spew pro-developer propaganda, and stifle YOUR freedom of speech. These mega corporations are then using the billions they make in advertising to fund their political candidates and promote their agendas. And don't EVER let your community become a "Charter City!" Oceanside is paying the price for having done so. Not only did Papa Doug take over the UT and the North County Times (NCT), but backs Council members (Kern, Feller & Felien) over Mayor Jim Wood and Councilwoman Esther Sanchez who were overwhelmingly re-elected by the VOTERS of Oceanside. The result: 3 guys on a City Council pass their own laws, stripping the Mayor of his powers of office and transferring those powers to themselves! Voters can't even post a comment in the UT or NCT without linking those publications to their personal Facebook page or giving Papa Doug the identities & contact info for 2 of their friends!— March 13, 2013 11:18 a.m.
