No. 10 Cathedral Catholic suffocates Scripps Ranch
Only one double digit quarter for Scripps. Must have been a frustrating game to be a Falcon.— January 12, 2011 12:12 p.m.
El Camino rallies to beat LCC in American Division championship
LCC looked like the better team up until that six minute mark of the final quarter. They executed well and El Camino managed to hang around, but there didn't seem to be a way El Camino would come back. They did a nice job of frustrating the Mavericks late and managed an impressive comeback. For the Lincoln game the Hornets overwhelmed St. Edward. The Ohio squad was very polished and disciplined but gave up talent at every position allowing Lincoln to cruise to that victory. It's a shame they missed out on the title game.— January 12, 2011 12:08 p.m.
Division IV: Valley Center vs Madison
Another top seed goes down! Good for Madison, and interesting to see a team run away with a previously close game in the second half. Plus it's worth noting that their helmet design is awesome.— December 6, 2010 2:29 p.m.
CIF Semifinals Scoreboard
Three number one seeds downed in the top three divisions, what a night for San Diego football. Were any of those surprising upsets?— December 2, 2010 11:31 p.m.
Vista grinds out win over Mira Mesa
From the highlights it looked like Vista's secondary was on its game, right on top of the ball and making good hits. That's not easy to find at the high school level.— September 11, 2010 1:50 p.m.
Game of the Week: Oceanside vs. Anaheim Servite
As the saying goes, "all good things must come to an end." Oceanside plays a very good brand of football and are a team of young guys that will get there. From the highlights, I saw that they had the talent to make some plays, but made too many turnovers: characteristic of a young team. Also they did play a really good team in Servite. Still, Oceanside should remain one of the top teams in North County.— September 9, 2010 11:32 p.m.
Division I: El Camino vs Rancho Bernardo
The 14-5 run pretty much decided the game. Not at the time of course, but looking back, RB gained momentum from that run that lasted them the rest of the way. They took several high-percentage shots, open 3 pointers or layups into contact, and made the most of Free Throw opportunities. El Camino did not play much help-side defense, committed too many bad fouls, and had a hard time getting the offense going. RB plays a smart brand of basketball and they deserved to win.— March 7, 2010 4:54 p.m.
Division III: Mount Miguel vs La Jolla
If you slow down the replay enough, it's apparent that Latta only got the ball before time expired. Given that he clearly got the ball first, the body contact should have been a wash. All that information is very hard to process in a split second for the referees. Regardless, Coach Assaf said it best. You learn that freshman year of HS basketball to never foul a jump shooter, especially with the game on the line.— March 7, 2010 3:52 p.m.
First Round Scoreboard
The bottom line is that those scores are hard to access. Sports scores generally do fall in the realm of common knowledge. Also, SDA is definitely known as San Dieguito Academy in North County. It's journalism, journalists work on deadlines all the time and we make mistakes as anyone does in any job. The only difference is our work is generally available to the mass public so people tend to notice them and get angry about them more often. Too many assumptions in that criticism.— February 24, 2010 5:51 p.m.
Southwest passes San Ysidro to claim South Bay League crown
Looks like Southwest has a very balanced attack. Nice to see a success story for a team that faced a tough schedule heading into league play.— February 18, 2010 12:01 a.m.
