We shouldn't be so hard on Brand. He's just doing what the three board members--Ricasa, McCann, Cartmill--hired him to do. Bull dog down on the unruly elements.

I just had a thought. Maybe it's the other way around, maybe the three board members are doing what Brand wants them to do.

Sjtorres: Actually, I don't think it would be a bad idea to have union input on the BOC. Classroom practitioners, as well as all other district employees who service students, would offer invaluable input. Their organizations (unions) would be a great asset, offering the views of those who deal with the day-to-day operations of the district in an organized, collective format. Why would that be so bad? Wouldn't you want nurses, doctors, and other health care workers to have input on how to best finance the running of a hospital or clinic? When you constantly use words like "union hacks" when referring to workers organizations, you lose any credibility you might have, and sound like a hack yourself. bvagency has asked you to provide proof of your allegations. I hope you publish them here in this forum for us all to read, as he has.

Bvageny: Your comments are very disturbing. Your pressure-lunch example is a real eye opener. Thanks for sharing. You are to be commended for your courage and honesty.

Maybe Sjtorres has had one coke and a smile too many.

The only person I can think of who holds such a persistant grudge against Bertha Lopez is John McCann.

Timtim: Thank you for the explanation, now we understand the totally irrational bantering. Funny at the large turnouts at the board meetings they are not aligning themselves with those in your camp.

Regarding my many postings, lets just say I consider it my public duty. BUT, glad to see you are so interested.

Too bad you will never see the light of day from inside those walls. BUT, you will have company coming soon. "the gandara', Sandoval, chopra, and the rest of the gang. I hear some prisons offer date night, with any luck quinones and you may be able to take a spin around the dance floor.

Why does SUHSD feel the need to provide their students with special access to colleges (Compact for Success)? Do they feel that their students can not compete with the rest of the students in the nation? Isn't this an inherent form of prejudice? After reading all the comments, there is a clear division I see. One group (the majority) is commenting on the dubious actions of adults and then there is timtim who just wants to make petty insults and blame the teachers' union (tired argument) for what I do not know.
Unfortunately for the students of the district the powers at be are mired in a nepotistic almost colonial mentality. Get rid of them all, I say, including much of the administration at the school sites and in the district office. And in the future, hire people of quality; not based on who they know, who they help get elected, or with whom they have relations.

On TopIc: It is interesting to note that the first Sweetwater U/Grand Canyon University class will be Communications and the Media.

It might be time to revisit the Reader story titled "Sweetwater Union HS District Supe Ed Brand Addresses Problems with U-T coverage." In 2011 Brand called in editors and writers from the UT to tell them how they should cover stories. The audio recording was posted on the Sweetwater website but after the Reader article came out, the audio was taken down. Below is an excerpt from the article:

Sweetwater continues to make headlines even though former superintendent Jesus Gandara is gone. Brand gave the assembled news team examples of what he perceives as biased coverage of recent incidents. Each lesson ended with: “Now, in my mind the story should have been about…”

Wow I am at the board meeting and the hypocritical hippies seem just as prejudice against christians as they accuse everyone else of being against gays and lesbians.I feel sorry for the christian students in the district having to face this type of judgement by the adults in trusted to educate them

Sounds like SGI didn't get the money quick enough and lost their jobs over greed. I always thought they were too expensive to use,I guess we know why now. This means Brand lied to the Grand Jury.Oh, what a surprise. It makes better sense that Cartmill and McCann had their hands out because Pearl certainly did her own asking without any shame as the transcripts have indicated. She didn't need anyone's help to get what she wanted. I wonder what Mayor Filner is thinking now about his Princess. McCann wiould be better served running for dog catcher than City Council or mayor. Cartmill's claims about being indicted for a charitable cause we always knew was bull. Both John and he wanted their campaign debt gone at the expense of SGI. The extra monies could be used for new campaign runs like the City Council race. Greed with Brand ingratiating himself deeper into their souls. Brand is not an elected official the board can get rid of him anytime. Dare I hope McCann has woken up.

"So McCann, having given away the store to Gandara when Gandara could have been removed for cause, brings back Brand. McCann then thinks that Brand must owe him, so Brand needs to find a way for McCann's campaign debt to disappear..."

This comment by you triggered a thought. Since we all know John McCann has aspirations to get back on the City counsel, and/or the Mayors office, it would make sense for him to cozy up to Edward M. Brand so that Brand's connections to the construction companies would continue to be a highly valued source of donations to John's future campaigns. John doesn't seem the sort to directly ask vendors for money, but if some other influential person would, I doubt he would turn it down.

Timtim, you're behavior at the board meeting had nothing to do with Mr. Mercado. Nice try at deflecting and trying to justify your tantrum. Mr. Mercado is not a paid board member, he did not disrupt the board meeting nor did he leave in the middle of the meeting to be vengeful and spiteful. You sir are not a man.

I got work tomorrow but just read this. I heard about it at work today. How bizarre. I will find out and report back. I am tired and will comment more tomorrow. Did you ever wonder with all this coming out in the Grand Jury stuff of who within the District sits by and does nothing over the years. When Jesus was hear it was also intimidation. Ed is smarter. That is the problem. He hides stuff in a more subtle way. I am turning off my Google Alerts on Sweetwater. It is blowing up my computer.

Just another monthly board meeting. It's become comic relief on a monthly basis. You could tell Bertha was missing nothing was questioned. The votes were 4:0 instead of 4:1. The curiosity was that the agenda was not completed but the mtg. was over before 10 pm. The board was probably tired from pushing the green (agree with Brand's button) It's hard to believe that the County Office of Ed. has not intervened but then they were aware of this mess along time ago. I bet the surprise guests were shocked. Four police cruisers over a $5.00 sign. Thank God there was no real crisis in the community. Do the police respond to this because McCann was a CV councilman? Maybe the Mayor needs to tell the police to exercise discretion when they get a call from the tantrum throwing McCann. His behavior appears to becoming more and more erratic kind of scary. If McCann abandoned his post in the military even though he is a supply officer he would have been in big trouble. But it only goes to show that our students take the back seat to his erratic impulses. I'm still in shock.

Mr. McCann can you spell L O S E R!!!!!!! Your really need to find your way home from the yellow brick road and stop pausing in the poppy fields for a nap. Your hallucinations are getting the best of you. I am gone for one meeting and look what i freaking miss. Holy shit this guy is freakin bonkers. He walks out on a safety presentation because someone took his pretty little sign. BOOOOO HOOOOO stop winning and put on your big boy underwear.

I thought he was a war hero. When he put the signs up he should have camped out in the trenches to defend them. Your such a wuss you make our guys in uniform embarrassed every time you give one of your war stories at graduations.

Go away and crawl up into a fox hole you are an idiot!!!! BTW I almost busted a gut when I read all of the people that sat there and watched you have another melt down. Bet you didnt know that they were there. Them public officials dont like to see idoits hold office. I wonder how you are going to do damage control on this one. Are you going to call and cry and say the public is such bullies booo hooo.

Mr. Cartmill yet another meeting you can't control. How could you let this idiot call the police you have a board member out of control. Ms. Ricasa i got to agree with anniej where was one of your stupid ass speeches now.

There is no way i am going to miss another meeting..........

It's called literary point of view. You would have know this style is an accepted form if you had stayed awake while you were in class.

anniej, the reason people have not received the contract between the district and Alliant is because Brand doesn't want people to see that it was a done deal. The gorilla has spoken. This behavior is only going to worsen. Brand's had the support of the majority of the board all along. You would think that Arlie would have had a conflict of interest in this matter but she doesn't care as she will assist the district in pillaging the pockets of these unsuspecting parents. Seniors are the only students that can get student loans. Hopefully the parents will do comparative school shopping, but alas SUSHD has become a business. I heard there was a mtg on the district's property yesterday. Does anyone know about this?

Rarely have I seen that many non-sequiturs in such a short read.

There are several things I could recommend, but most importantly, I'd like to know who you are calling powerless?

And why should the public, the taxpayers want to hand anything over to Mayor Cox, as we haven't heard one thing from her on this subject.

Get real.

Jmbrickley June 30, 2013 @ 11:59 a.m.

There are many, well qualified, and honest people who are part of the Sweetwater family. I for one do not want someone with no educational background running this school district. As good as their intentions might be, their lack of educational experience would be a hinder.

Whether it is recruiting kids for Alliant or recruiting kids for Grand Canyon University, why, if these plans are so brilliant is it necessary to "recruit" (with free food!) at all? Brand and his partner Hassey need only to put out a notice and students would answer the call. I think there is more to the story hiding behind the wizard's curtain . Someone standing to gain financially seems probable. The long arm of the law did not reach quite far enough in the South Bay Saga of corruption. The story should be read by all. Thanks Susan

Helen, Brand knows but doesn't care. I believe you let the cat out of the bag, watch your back gal. I wonder how many students are in our Grand Canyon classes?
