100 Years of the La Mesa Library, Condensed Version: The La Mesa Library was among the branches of the County of San Diego library system that opened in 1913. That's one of the details I learned at the Aug. 24 presentation at the branch. La Mesa locations included Porter Hall (http://www.cityoflamesa.com/DocumentCenter/Home/View/866) The hall is named for Dr. Henry Porter, who served as a medical missionary in China. The library was housed from 1957-2008 in a building on land where the police station is now located. The branch now on Allison Avenue is the third busiest in the county system. Vista and San Marcos claim the top two spots.
