Among the best Chinese restaurants in the county, local Asians go here for family dinners, dim sum, and Hong Kong specialties. Mainly moderate, with splurges like live fish and Peking duck balanced by down-home dishes. Inexpensive.

I have eaten at Emerald in the past and it was truly nothing special. Much of their dim sum tastes like it came straight out of the freezer section at 99 Ranch market. Recently: It's too bad San Diego restaurants like Emerald still feature Shark Fin Soup on their banquet menus. It's true they have until 2013 to purge the remaining stock from their inventory (and then the total ban on shark fin goes into effect), but many restaurants in Ca are being proactive and eliminating their fin stocks now. Shame on the Emerald (and others) for not being ethical until the law absolutely forces them to be.
